Just got back from the Oklahoma State/Arkansas State game.
Let me just say this - the Cowgirls are legit. They pasted the Lady Indians, 96-48 - after the Lady Indians picked up wins over BYU and at Alabama.

No, I forgot my oxygen mask and climbing equipment, so I didn't get a chance to run up to the media table.
I miss covering women's basketball with him though - he was the only thing keeping me sane during Budke's first season :)

BTW, who really stood out tonight? Most improved? Someone to watch out for?

I hope we can make some games soon. I've heard they are fun to watch and are showing great improvement.

If I had to choose a standout, it'd probably be either Andrea Riley or Maria Cordero. Riley is one of the fastest guards I've ever seen - men's or women's - and when the Cowgirls are playing well defensively, they score a lot of points in transition.
As far as improved, I'd probably say Cordero again. She had her moments last year, but never much consistency. She's been pretty complete this year - both inside and outside - and like men's basketball, having a good post is key. She can also shoot the three though, so she's a matchup problem for a lot of teams.
Talking about someone to watch out for, I'd say any of the newcomers. They've got a lot of talent, and for a team with so many new faces, it's remarkable that they're playing with so much chemistry already.

So where are the students? The Cowgirls are really entertaining. I just don't get why they shy away from the Cowgirls games. It's a really cheap place to take a date and be entertained and share a box of popcorn.

Student support has grown quite a bit through the past couple of seasons. Not near where it should be, but it's getting there.
I'm going to chalk up tonight's attendance to 1) It being the last week before dead week, and 2) The opponent being Arkansas State.

We'll still beat you.......I hope....but yeah, they've looked really good...I think I told you when it happened that Budke would wind up being a great hire if he got the time....

The biggest question I have about that Bedlam match-up is still how to stop the Paris twins. Cordero has come along enough that I think she can go toe-to-toe with Courtney for awhile, but I think Courtney is so big she just wears people down. When that happens, Ashleigh takes over and finishes the job (at least that's been the impression I've gotten from the times I've seen Oklahoma play OSU).
I'm hoping that Megan Byler can come in and at least take some of the burden off Cordero in the post, and she's a little wider body than Cordero, too, so maybe she can slow the Parises (is that the plural of Paris? :)) down a bit.
Should have all the makings of a good series this year though.

ive been to every women's game but the one against Arkansas State because i had to work. im trying to find ways to get it out to my fellow student body to go to the games. they ARE entertaining, they ARE good, and they WILL finish in the the top 25 this season. yes bold prediction but im going for it. if anybody has any ideas on how to help me get the students to come to the games tell me. PLEASE! i hate seeing only a third of place filled....on a good night.

Cordero had some sort of viral infection or something like that, which really hurt her endurance last year. She was literally worn out by the end of halftime each game. She is 100% this year, so that is the reason why she looks so much better. And yes, we have VERY fast guards. Andrea + Booze = 2 of the fastest guards I have ever seen. The speed of our guards will be trouble for Courtney Paris. All the analysts I have heard have said the key to beating Courtney is fast guards, which I think we have this year. The problem is finding a way to stop both Paris girls though.
