"Quantum of Solace". The title of an Ian Fleming short story.
Picks up right where Casino Royale left off.
Yes, I'm freaking giddy. Out November 2008....

I'm a big Bond fan... But I'm struggling with the "continuity" of the Series at this point.
Before, as the faces changed (Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, etc) we were supposed to ignore the "face" of bond and just continue with the timeline. I was good with that.
With Casino Royale, it looks to me like that has now all changed? So are we supposed to in essence ignore the first 20 Bond films and "start over" with Daniel Craig as Bond? Are we supposed to forget all the history of the series and character and move forward from square one?
If that is true, how are we supposed to reconcile the fact that so many of the "faces" (Judi Dench as "M", Moneypenny, the new "Q", etc) are overlapping the earlier films with the new "start over" films?
I'm so confused! Please straighten me out....

Yeah, it's what they've called a 'reboot'. Dark Knight did it. Other stories have done it.
Fact is, this series NEEDED a massive overhaul. I can remember being pissed off after watching Die Another Day, Pierce's last movie. I've never seen a movie start so well and go sad badly so fast. Casino Royale was the best Bond movie since the Connery days. And the movie was truer to Ian Fleming's Bond since Lazenby did On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
I'm thrilled they've added a tougher edge to Bond, and got rid of the completely outlandish b.s. There's no Q, and no Moneypenny in this movie. I LOVE that. They've stripped away some of the cliches. If they add them back in later in another movie, great. But having James Bond early in his career searching for his identity after losing one of the few women he ever loved is brilliant. It captures the tortured soul Fleming went for in the books. Bond is a seriously mentally messed up individual. He gives everything to try and save the world, yet allows nobody close to him emotionally. I love that dynamic.
The only "hole" in this is Dame Judi Dench playing M. But she does such a freaking good job in that role, I can suspend the continuity thing. She just has the character nailed, and it works. And I thought their relationship in Casino Royale was great. Apparently they're going to be very much at odds in the new one. Great!
Anyways, looking forward to what looks like another strong effort from these guys. They're feeling pressure to make this one good after what they did with Casino Royale, and they seem to be taking that pressure seriously.
Bring on November 7...!!!

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You've been out ridin' fences,
for so long - now.
Ohh you're a hard one.
I know that you've got your reasons.
These things that are pleasin'you
Can hurt you somehow.
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able.
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table.
But you only want the ones
That you can't get.
Desperado,
Ohhhh you aint getting no younger.
Your pain and your hunger,
They're driving you home.
And freedom, ohh freedom.
Well that's just some people talking.
Your prison is walking through this world all alone.
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine.
It's hard to tell the night time from the day.
And you're losing all your highs and lows
aint it funny how the feeling goes
away...
Desperado,
Why don't you come to your senses?
come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you.
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you...ohhh..hooo
before it's too..oooo.. late.
