With cars honking their horns in support, some 200 children marched down Denver Avenue Monday morning for universal health care coverage.
“These children are being taught to be an advocate for millions of kids who don’t have health insurance,” said state Rep. Jabar Shumate, D-Tulsa.
The event was organized by the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League, and children from Tulsa’s two Freedom Schools, day camps and other groups gathered at the Tulsa County Election Board early with signs proclaiming “Save our babies” and “Our kids need universal health care.”
“This is bridging the gap for all the kids in our community,” said Opa Chaney, who is the league’s employment case manager.
The children were set to end their march at the Page Belcher Federal Building. The march is part of a national effort by the Children’s Defense Fund’s Freedom Schools program.
This frosts my petunias for soooo many reasons, not the least of which is the bunch of fat-asses participating; link to pictures:

Let me add,
The use of kids for political gain is pathetic.. I doubt they even had a clue as to why they were out there. It would been great if a reporter would have quizzed some of the kids and even adults about what they were marching for.

How about this weeks issue of Medical Economics. This paints a pretty grim picture of Massachusetts medical climate since "reforming" and going to universal healthcare. No cost lowering so far and docs leaving left and right.

Bitching about the quality of the public option while you know that you would be bitching if the public option was the same quality as your private insurance.
Whatever it is I'm against it.

Don't know why, but there is a different version of the article available which does ask the kids questions:
One Tulsa marcher, Tony Morrison, 10, was quick to respond when asked why he was marching.
"Some kids die because they don't have health insurance," he said quietly.

How did the kids propose to pay for it?
I feel that if medical coverage is free, people will likely take worse care of themselves.
Also, I feel many companies would stop providing insurance (ala Walmart) if there were more free options available

At least in OK, every kid is covered by Medicaid until they turn 18 so I'm not sure where Tony got his info. The Shriner's hospitals will certainly not turn any kid down.
The universal health coverage reform in MA has not contained or lowered costs as the politicians state it will. It has provided coverage for everyone but at increased costs. I don't have any problem with everyone having insurance but at least the politicians could not lie and tell us it will make our healthcare in America cheaper which it won't, it is going to increase proportional to the number of people they add on.
And as far as VDO stating I am bitching about the quality of the public offering, Medicaid here is already better than what I have, lower drug copays and no deductible (whereas mine is $1000).

With all due respect to the ten-year-old boy quoted in the story, just how many children have died because they don't have insurance? I thought hospitals had a responsibility to take care of those sick regardless of their insurance status.
I don't believe that large numbers of people have died due to a lack of health insurance.

Soonercare(Medicaid) apparently still exists so these people are at best uninformed. At worst, trying to misrepresent the truth. Kids do have healthcare as they should.
