STILLWATER — Oklahoma State shooting guard James Anderson will spend part of his summer playing basketball against the best college players in the world after being selected to the USA Basketball team for the World University Games, it was announced Thursday.

Anderson, who will be a junior this season, was one of 12 players chosen to spend 11 days competing in Belgrade, Serbia, next month.

"There is some big-time talent here,” Anderson said of the three-day tryout of roughly 25 players which completed Thursday. "It felt good, just knowing that I have an opportunity to do something special and be a part of something special. It’s just a great experience.”

The team is coached by Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan, and the team selection committee included coaching legends like Jim Boeheim of Syracuse and North Carolina’s Roy Williams.

"I just went out and competed and did whatever I could to have this opportunity to make this team and play for the USA,” said Anderson, who will go through two-a-day practices with Team USA for the next week before departing for Serbia. The team will also participate in some exhibition games prior to the start of the event.

"James has solidified himself as one of the top college basketball players in the country,” OSU coach Travis Ford said. "He will be able to hone his own game against some of the best players in this country and the world.

"That won’t do anything but make him better. This is a great opportunity for James Anderson, as well as this university and this basketball program.”

OK, maybe he'll be able to recruit some ex-Yugo bigs that would like to transfer from Belgrade U to Orange Country!

But seriously, good job to JA and well-deserved recognition...not everybody gets to compete wearing the national colors at any level.
