The only recruit to visit Oklahoma State this weekend was defensive lineman Derrick Chatman of Coahoma (Miss.) Community College. The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder will have two seasons of Division I-A eligibility.
Chatman reports that he has gotten scholarship offers from West Virginia, OSU, Southern Miss, Kansas State and Mississippi State. Until West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez departed for Michigan, the Mountaineers were considered the frontrunners for Chatman's letter-of-intent signature.
Now, Chatman says, Oklahoma State is the leader. Chatman was an end in junior college, but Cowboy coaches are recruiting him to play a tackle position.
"I think I will fit in good with (OSU's) players. I love their coaches," Chatman told Scout.com before his trip to Stillwater. "I've been working on losing weight, but they want me to gain it.
"I feel the closest to the Oklahoma State staff. I feel like I have known them forever," Chatman added. "We talk about everything. We talk football, academics and girls -- just everything. They are real laid back and easy to talk to. They have done a great job (of) recruiting me."
Cowboys lose Hinton: Jackie Hinton, who had committed to Oklahoma State as a wide receiver out of Channelview (Texas) High School, announced last week that he instead plans to sign with the University of Houston.
"I was committed to Oklahoma State, but I called and de-committed," the 5-10, 185-pound Hinton told TexasPrepInsider.com. "I just love UH and the people because it is like a family. They told me they are still trying to find out what position I am going to play. I would like to play defensive back."
At Houston, Hinton will play for new head coach Kevin Sumlin, who had been Oklahoma's co-offensive coordinator.
"I chose UH because I want to win games and bowl games," Hinton said. "It feels good to get this over with. I'm relaxed, I'm solid, it's done and this is where I want to be."
National ranking: As of Saturday, Scout.com ranked OSU's current crop of committed players as the No. 38 class in the nation.
Other Big 12 rankings: Texas A&M was fifth, Texas eighth, Oklahoma ninth, Missouri 25th, Nebraska 28th, Colorado 30th, Kansas 40th, Texas Tech 49th, Iowa State 51st, Kansas State 54th and Baylor 67th.
The overall national No. 1 ranking was held by Notre Dame.
