ConocoPhillips donates $2 million to Oklahoma State University

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State University has received a $2 million gift from ConocoPhillips, university officials announced Monday.

The gift is unrestricted, so university officials can use the money as they fit. However, ConocoPhillips did give a recommendation as to how the corporation would like to see the money allocated.

ConocoPhillips is recommending that $1 million be spent on the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center; $350,000 for the SPIRIT Scholars Program; $225,000 for the Spears School of Business; $192,000 for the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology; $118,000 for diversity programs; $70,000 for other support; and $45,000 for Arts & Sciences.

The funds will support a variety of academic endeavors such as scholarships, endowed chairs, visiting speakers, graduate studies, equipment purchases, career services, multicultural development and other academic projects, officials said.

Benefiting university
ConocoPhillips gave an additional $90,480 to OSU through its matching gift program, which matches employee gifts of up to $10,000 that are given to kindergarten through 12th grade schools or universities.

"ConocoPhillips continues to be one of OSU’s best partners,” OSU President Burns Hargis said. "Whether the economy is soaring or uncertain, whether the price of oil is rising or not, ConocoPhillips consistently makes gifts to benefit OSU students, faculty, staff and alumni.”

ConocoPhillips has given OSU more than $34 million over the years and hires more OSU graduates than any other company, officials said.

I like how its unrestricted, but is broken out specifically how they would recommend it be used!

I just find that humorous.
Why not just say, "here, use this money for this..."?

heh heh

Great Gift!

Thanks Conoco Phillips!

Well... I think it says those are general guidelines, and beyond that, the funds are unrestricted. E.g., A&S can do whatever they wish with their $45,000.

$192,000 for the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology; $118,000 for diversity programs; $70,000 for other support; and $45,000 for Arts & Sciences.

In other words, if you have a better place to spend it call us and we'll discuss it. If any of my old friends are still living in B'ville, a nice gift for baseball would be welcome too. Go Cowboys!!!

Good idea. We could name our new stadium "ConocoPhillips Field at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium," or something like that.

ConocoPhillips... the company who left Oklahoma for "greenier" pastures in Texas and who's logo is made up of OU's ...

This is nice of them but still won't use them if i can avoid them... abandoned Oklahoma and an OU graduate's company

Vulgar... Conoco logo was designed by an OU art student and taken by the marketing team to OU for them to make a logo for the company.. if you look at the Conoco signs they are all OU-- Conoco... with of course red and white letters..

Phillips was a Bartlesville, Oklahoma based company who "made" a committment to stay in Oklahoma but up and left to go ot Houston to make more money... so I don't respect them for doing that... lots of Oklahomans lost their jobs or had to transfer to Houston... just a personal dislike of them

It would have been stupid on so many levels for conocophillips to stay in ponca city or bartlesville. Not to go all cnbc on everyone but there comes a point when a company decides whether it is more interested in making people happy or making money. Most companies chose the latter. The OU thing is just petty. If you don't want to buy conocophillips gas fine. Go to Citgo or Shell or some other company that has absolutely zero interest in Oklahoma much less the Pokes.

Now there's a company that has no USA ownership interest
or
interest in our country's welfare
other than
the money it can get from us.

It is also another company that left Oklahoma.

ok, well Vulgar didn't say you had to agree with me... however, I do the same thing with bookstores in OKC or Moore that won't sell OSU stuff... I just won't go into them...

It might be petty but I don't support OU stuff... maybe you do, but I don't.

As far as leaving Oklahoma... I am sure it was a better money move.. but that money move cost a lot of Oklahomans their jobs or forced into early retirement or transfer to Houston.... I guess Oklahomans losing their jobs is just petty too.... a company built by Oklahomans.. just sad to see it pull up shop like it did... just my thoughts.... don't have to be yours

Nice comeback...I like it.

MY experience with ConocoPhillips is this...When we had our family contracting business in Stillwater, we did work for Conoco and for Phillips over a those years. For us as a contractor, both companies were outstanding to work with/for. More recently, however, my experience with the co-jointed company is such that if what I saw of how they do their business is their standard...God help 'em. :stupe:

Coach, How would you feel if we named our stadium after a guy that cost alot of Oklahomans their jobs in the 1980's?

Does anyone know the history of why Phillips 66 started "way back" in the history of Oklahoma with orange & black signs and then changed to red & white? (I know, sort of a "non-sports" question, but I have always been curious).
