I just accepted a new job in downtown OKC. So I'll be moving there within the next month.

I plan on house shopping tomorrow in Edmond. Any advice on where to look, names of neighborhoods that I can use to search on the internet, or general areas considered worth looking in would be appreciated.

I think I would kinda prefer to be on the east side of town, fairly close to the Kilpatrick. The one neighborhood I've looked at so far was called Stonebridge. It was about right with regard to what I am looking for. Probably looking for something in the 2,500 sq foot range.

Thoughts?

If you have a job in downtown OKC, why not live near downtown OKC?

I just moved a mile and a half from my office and walk it every day....LOVE IT!!

PS, if you do move to "the sticks", get the stick's paper and not the Gaylord Fishwrap

Stonebridge is a good development.....my husband designed the landscape!! (LandscapePoke) :)

Are you looking for a newer house or maybe one a little older? We live in northeast Edmond (Coffee Creek and Bryant) in an older neighborhood and there are some nice newer additions out this way also.

You can go to www.openhouseok.com anc click on Edmond to find homes for sale in Edmond. Of course this isn't a list of all homes, but it might help you find something. Then if you have a question about the area of one you like you can ask.

Oakdale Valley Hefner and Sooner Road go east on Hefner about 1/4 mile on the south side of Hefner across from the Oakdale School.

Your husband did a really nice job! Stonebridge is a very attractive neighborhood.

My preference would be for a new home east of broadway and north of Kilpatrick somewhere.

Thanks all for the good responses!

Thanks!

You can walk across the big pond on the north side by the Apartments. Its only 6' deep. Those fountains were a b%tch to put in.

I would drive up and down Bryant, and Coltrane between 15th and 122nd There are a ton of older houses that are really nice. If your looking for a brand new house Stonebridge is it.

Good luck.

I have a friend building in Covell Village....neat design as far as small individual gated areas inside a bigger area.

Chimney Hill is nice. Older homes are from the meid 1970's, the newer ones in there are from the late 1980's. Nice Neighborhood with HOA pool and park.

Fos Lake is good too. Most houses are closer to 3000, but there are some 2500's in there. Mostly built in the 1990's. Has a HOA pool, park and Lake.

Both these area's go to Edmond Memorial High School.

Another area I'd look at is Fair Cloud (Danforth and Coltrane). Houses are 2400 and up, mostly build in late 1980's to mid 1990's.

There are several other area's as you go north on Coltrane that would be nice. The main thing about East Edmond is the TREEs and Hills. The West side is Flat and every tree was planted after the home was built.

Thanks for comments guys...

I spent a somewhat frustrating day in Edmond Saturday.

Prices in my area in Tulsa seem to be around $85 - $90 per square foot. New home construction in Edmond seems easily in the $110 or so range.

Seems like an odd market. You can buy new homes all day for under 2500 square feet. Then it like skips to 3400 or so. Very little new construction to choose from in the 2700-3000 sq foot size.

I looked at most of the neighborhoods out North. Most of those neighborhoods seemed to start in the $350,000 range and up which is a bit outside my comfort level.

The more West I went, the more "geographically boring" the areas got. The commute to downtown from those areas also seemed difficult. Roads not great out there. Lots of two lane main roads.

I did look at the Oakdale development east on Hefner. That looks interesting, but there is just NOTHING around it. Hefner is a pretty crappy road that takes you by a big warehourse thing on the North and a farm on the South back to some pretty nice homes. Anytime you needed to shop or go out to eat your going to drive many miles. Not my first choice...

Stonebridge continues to be my pick of the newer areas just because of location. But alot of those houses aren't very big either. I really just found 1, maybe 2 homes there that interested me.

Somebody REALLY needs to go out there a build a neighborhood of new 3,000 sq foot homes in the $300,000 range. The vacant land just South of Stonebridge would be perfect for that. Gotta believe they would be highly sought after. LOTS of homes like that in South Tulsa.

Anybody have any thoughts/opinions regarding a builder named Tom French?

Actually the builder is my friend. Scott Loper is his name. He's building the house he built for me, there..just charging another 10 bucks a sq. ft. Castle Creek Homes or something like that.

Yes Annie, my house is still for sale, but its to small for pokevette, and its on the wrong side of Edmond.

It's not Edmond, but we live in the Putnam area over by Wiley Post Airport. They are building a lot of new houses in the area. It's a mile or 2 down Wilshire to hope on the Kirkpatrick or 7 miles south to I40. It's not too bad to get down town. The draw back is that it's new additions so the trees are not very mature but most of the additions have small lakes in them. We did not buy currently but it seems to be a little more reasonable.
