GOP strategist Nicole Wallace names Sinise and others as possible GOP saviors.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Nicolle Wallace, a top adviser to George W. Bush and John McCain’s presidential campaign, is adding a few names to the list of Republicans who might lead the GOP out of the wilderness.

Top among them? Actor Gary Sinise.

Wallace, writing on The Daily Beast, said she first heard the idea from a fellow Republican.

“The natural strengths that an actor brings to politics would come in handy to anyone going up against Obama in 2012,” she wrote. “We will need an effective communicator who can stand toe to toe with Obama’s eloquence.”

Sinise, also a musician, performs for U.S. troops and often champions veterans' causes.

She also named Generals David Petraeus and Ray Odierno as possible Republican saviors.

“Both have denied any interest in a run for office,” she wrote, “but if their masterful management of Iraq is undermined in any way over the next four years, one could hope that they’d reconsider.”

She said that according to most Republicans she has spoken with, a Republican resurgence would demand a new leader, “as opposed to any one of the politicians on the national stage today rising to the occasion.”

Wallace floated the names because she said there’s only so much soul-searching the Republican party can do without the next great leader, someone like President Obama “who matches the moment and transcends the narrow debates about ideology” while moving the political discourse “away from the past.”

She said the ongoing argument about whether the GOP needs to become more moderate or re-assert its conservative principles is a “media-generated debate” and “a false choice that offers nothing but continued division for Republicans.”

When I think of Gary Sinise, I quickly visualize scenes of his first movie as a director and not those as an actor.

I wonder if that one article naming Lt. Dan as someone to consider is enough for the media to start tearing him apart?

I would vote for a Nugent/Sinise ticket.

While watching Newt Gingrich on CNN, I thought to myself "Why does the Republican party pick the biggest doofuses as leaders?" sheesh

Sinise would be fine with me. I would have prefereed Don Nickles but he retired and I guess didn't have any aspirations for the Presidency.

I like Sinise as an actor, but I don't know much about his politics. Is he a moderate? hard line right-winger? That's what'll make a difference to me.

This point cannot be made clearly enough. The GOP of late has been a snake eating its own tail. If it ever hopes to regain strength and remain valid, it must move past the bickering of moderates versus the conservatives.

What, did Rush Limbaugh decide not to run?

I like Rush Limbaugh and like his conservative opinions but the Republican party will be a joke if they let that guy run for office. He belongs in a chair giving opinions over a radio but he is not a leader and he is not what the Republican party needs to get back in the Oval Office.

Oh, I might even change to independent and leave the Republican party if they think Limbaugh is presidential material.

I don't even like Limbaugh, but the way he sticks in the hippie's craw is precious.

I'm wondering how he would handle campaigning with the two artificial legs.

Hmmmm... A good looking guy with a charismatic way of speaking that hasn't really done anything to make anyone think he has the knowledge or experience to lead the country. What are we, a bunch of morons? There's no way the people of the USA would be gullible enough to elect someone like that!
