Is there any freeware or cheap software I can use to build a CD or DVD?

I have been going through boxes of pictures, documents, etc. of my family and I want to present a media to the family at our reunion in June so people can look at what I have done. I might need something I can create a slide show maybe with music. I have a genealogy chart plus all the hundreds of pictures, letters and documents I have scanned. I thought if not a CD or DVD maybe a thumb drive which included everything but I still would want some way they could flip through things. Help!

Oh, and how much would a CD hold, picture-wise with music? If we are talking about a 25 picture slide show with music for one CD, uh, that won't work.

Thanks!

Running Windows, I assume. Are you wanting to do something beyond the scope of Powerpoint? It'll do a lot of what you mentioned. Also, you might see if your computer has Windows Movie Maker on it. Just about any movie-making software has the ability to make really nice slide shows.

Beyond that, I'm not really sure, but a person can spend a LOT of money on that kind of software.
