Protect the knee: Mindful of the injury that sidelined NFL quarterback Tom Brady of New England last season, Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson is experimenting with a protective brace on his left knee.
"It's a precautionary deal," he explained. "So many (quarterbacks) have gotten rolled up on. I feel good with it. I've worn it the whole spring so far. After the first five minutes, I couldn't even feel that it was there. Me and (head athletic trainer) Rob Hunt talked about it, and I thought it was a good idea."
Open session: Friday's 3:30 p.m. practice session is open to the public. Until the April 18 Orange-White spring game at Boone Pickens Stadium, all other spring-practice sessions will be closed.
Also on Friday, the OSU coaching staff will conduct a clinic for high school coaches.
Jones update: Third-year sophomore defensive end Richetti Jones, who was a high-profile recruit out of Dallas Lincoln High School, may finally be positioned for playing time this year.
Jones sustained a dislocated left hip during a 2006 high school practice, and a prolonged recovery has blunted his progress at OSU. He appeared in nine games last season. Defensive coordinator Bill Young expects Jones to be a factor this year. Jones currently is listed as a backup behind Ugo Chinasa.
"(Jones) has missed a lot of football, and we need to catch him up as fast as we can," Young said.
"Physically, he can play, but he's got to line up correctly and carry out his assignment. That comes with experience."
