Someone really had a "hay day" at my horse barns. Not only did they steal about 50 bales of top alfalfa, (500.00 bucks or so) but they felt the need to steal tack, a saddle, dump meds, lock at least one of my horses on the inside of the barn (on the other side of my cattle shute in a small confined area) dump cans of feed (oats, sweetfeed, etc) on the floor for one or more horses to eat all they wanted, (not good) destroy the containers, etc...all while drinking three cases of beer, which they threw into one of my trashcans. It also looks like someone had a torch, as there was metal on the cement floor....? Unreal.
There are several sets of tire marks, all from pickups. No telling what my poor horses went through. We know at least one was locked near the cattle shute, because it took a horsie poo on the cement floor of the barn. When Bill got out there, all the gates were open and the horses were in the pasture. So SOMEONE let them out after their little "party"
Grrrrrrr, i'm pissed.
Thank goodness i didn't have a good saddle out there. The one they took wasn't anything i can't live without, but that's not the point. I had alot of meds out there that i'll have to replace, and tack as well.
Flipping idiots.

Now adays, the way people are, if the barns out of eye sight, you need security cameras.
Its a shame.
Sorry for the nonsense. Hope you can catch em & kick their ass!
Michelle, that is absolutely horrible. Probably underaged kids who have to drink somewhere where they won't get caught. The poor horses...glad they're ok.

If someone ever does that to my barn I would KILL them - you don't mess with my animals!!! I'm glad to know all your horses are safe, that is the important thing. Do you have locks on any of that stuff? If not, might not be a bad idea to lock them up.
I sure hope they catch the stupid idiots that did this.

Lots of evidence available there, if you have a sharp enough deputy out to take a look.

I found out some barns around here have been broken into. Saddles, 4 wheelers, trailers, etc are being taken. A friend of mine (who is a big roper)had someone attempt to get inside his. Thank goodness they didn't because he has about 15 saddles inside his arena. High dollar roping saddles.
We have a good idea who it was, or at least along the lines. Nothing we can do to prove it unless the sheriff office pushes it... and i don't see that happening. Not this crew. Yes, there is LOTS of evidence.
I'm installing security measures to make sure some of this never happens, but you can't fully secure barns/runs. If they want to hit me again they can do it. Hopefully they got what they wanted and will leave me alone.
I just don't understand people. I have worked hard for everything i have out there. Why someone feels they can come and take it away from me..i don't know.
I'm just glad my horses are safe and sound (although i'm still watching them-not knowing how much of the feed they came into contact with) The other things can be replaced. They can't.

Unfortunately The Custer County Sheriff's office has their own problems. With that much damage/stolen, I would certainly get them out there. At least they might be able to link it up with similar incidences.

They have been out there. They said they will "do what they can."

It very well may still be a sooner thread. Any wagers on when and if they find these guys how much sooner gear they'll have on when they're arrested?

Annie, that blows. I hope they get caught and the #%*&$ get sent to jail for a goodly period of time.
Get some locks installed and watch those horses closely.

Wow! That's terrible AnniePokely. You lose a lot more than material things when you have a theft or break-in. I hope they catch whomever did this to you.

I just don't have great luck out there. I don't know if any of you guys remember a few years ago some idiot threw out a cig, and there was a big fire. Not only did it cause me damage, but it caused a farmer beside me damage as well. No barns, just pasture and fence. We had to be quick in cutting fence to run livestock into other pastures from harms way. Two weeks ago, during the high wind advisory, the same thing happened, only it wasn't as bad. Someone threw out a cig, and it caught the side of the road (beside my barns) on fire. The fire dept was quick to get it put out before it hit pasture though. It only burned the side of the road. I actually didn't even know about it until it was over. Which somewhat irritated me.
The thing about this location is it's a road that people use the back way to go to and from Arapaho to Clinton. They use it as a major road. They haul butt up and down this road. It's Great land, great location overlooking Clinton, but a hassle sometimes.
Anyway...it's said and done. Nothing i can do about it now except hope the sherrif's office finds someone.

Similiar experience this past summer. Broke into our new shop building 4 times over a 3 week period. Beat the doors off the hinges to get in. Replaced doors and each time we put up additional barriers, they worked. That didn't stop the bastards, they cut a hole in the wall to gain entrance. Each police report "well we need to catch them in the act."
On top of that some other turds stole our kubota tractor and trailer that was parked next to my brothers house on a freakin Saturday afternoon to top off the summer. (Side note we moved the tractor and trailer out of the shop so the pricks would beat it to death.)
Don't get me started.................

some people are just born to be a$$holes. I am a true believer in karma. They will get theirs in the end.

It's pretty cool to actually catch somebody in the act. Normally, when you solve one of these types of cases, you solve a dozen more when you find other stolen property at their house or apartment.
Of course, when property is not marked or you don't have the serial number, you don't have much unless they fess up.
But if you can get evidence from the other scenes, then you can tie them back to the other crimes. It gets a little involved, but it is so worthwhile when you get that one break.

You need to invest in Rottweiler Security Agency. Rotts raised around livestock do very well.

We just put down our 14 y/o rottie "Greta" a few months ago. I don't want another dog. Besides, my horses don't mesh with dogs. Putting one out there would shorten it's lifespan... dramatically.
I was just thinking that if you put a dog out there, you'd have to worry about the horses AND a dog!
