STILLWATER - Oklahoma State junior tight end Brandon Pettigrew, a 2007 first-team all-Big 12 selection by the league coaches, has announced that he will be returning to OSU for his senior season.

Pettigrew is rated as one of the nation’s top tight end prospects by NFL draft experts. He had been weighing his options regarding an early jump into his professional career.

“I feel like I’ve improved as a player every year I’ve been on campus,” said the product of Lee High School in Tyler, Texas. “I want to continue to get better, and I want to keep working toward my degree in economics. One more year at OSU can only help me. ”

Pettigrew, a 6-6, 260-pounder, caught 11 passes as a freshman, had 24 receptions as a sophomore and 35 catches as a junior for 540 yards and four touchdowns. He had two of the biggest grabs of the 2007 season when he scored on a 54-yard reception in the final minutes against Texas Tech and on a 39-yard play in the fourth quarter against Kansas State. OSU rallied for fourth-quarter wins against both of those Big 12 foes.

In a time of year in which recruiting takes center stage, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy knows he picked up one of his biggest commitments for 2008 with the return of Pettigrew.

“Brandon is a great leader for our team – on and off the field,” Gundy said. “He will be as close as you can get to a ‘can’t miss’ first rounder next year. It’s also good to know he will leave here with a degree. It’s exciting for us to know Brandon will be around in 2008.”

“I enjoy the atmosphere of college football and I want to remain a part of what’s happening with Oklahoma State,” Pettigrew said. “College years are a unique time in anyone’s life and I want to enjoy them while I can.”

“Our program is on the brink of reaching another level and I would like to do my part to help us reach that goal,” he added. “Our coaching staff has done a great job of putting the pieces in place and I think 2008 could be a memorable season.”

Great news for OSU on his return. I wonder if Bowman's return had anything to do with BP deciding he could play his senior season as well? At least we get to watch him on Saturday's for one more season.

A big Cowboy THANK YOU to Mr. Pettigrew...

Must of been tough passing the money up to come back for one more year at OSU...

One of the better tight ends to come into the conference and should have a blow-out year next year and solidify him as one of the most dominate tight ends ever in the BIG 12...

He must of only been projected as a 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder which is another reason he came back.

This is awesome news!!

This has to be quite the disappointment to the Daily "Disappointment" staff.

It seemed like they wrote nothing but articles saying he was all but gone for an entire month after the end of the regular season.:D

I am assuming OSU will take an insurance policy out for Brandon, I believe they are allowed per NCAA rules

The offense is instantly credible with Pettigrew and Bryant. The development of another wide receiver threat to these weapons will really open up the offense.

We need a running threat to develop from Staley, Hunter and the Juco.

Robinson could have national leading statistics with that combination.

Wow the DOK guys must be on suicide watch. Now they are reporting that Lofton is going pro. They had done all they could to talk him out of it in the articles lately...:p

Well Pettigrew is staying, while Lofton is leaving. Throw in this weekends Mens home loss to K-State,and their womens team being owned by the cowgirls, and the recent "Siesta in da Fiesta",and well the Swooners are spinning alot. Certainly keeping the Joklahoman busy spinning with em. Good days indeed.

we also have three 3-star tight end prospects that have committed and that BP could give advice and mold next year because he is staying.

1) Cooper Bassett 6'5 235lbs 4.66 40-time #24 TE

2) Justin Horton 6'4 220lbs 4.5 40-time bench 300lbs #37 TE

3) Nigel Nicholas 6'3 247lbs #30 TE

those are big guys!!

With Pettigrew coming back we won't have to throw one of the young guys out there with no Div I experience. Next year one of the young guys can step in and fill Waller's shoe's.

I am not exactly sure, but I believe the school can purchase an insurance policy to guard against career threatening injury. I know that SC did it for Matt Leinart, and I believe paperclips did it Jason White.

The athlete must reimburse the university after leaving though.
