Experience disparity: Tennessee is playing in its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament. No one on OSU's roster has participated in an NCAA Tournament game.
The Vols know what to expect. Everything will be new to the Cowboys. So, OSU coach Travis Ford is advising his team not to let outside distractions — including ticket requests and media obligations — affect game preparation.
Catching butterflies: Because OSU hasn't played in an NCAA Tournament game since 2005, is there any chance the Cowboys might contract stage fright?
"I don't know. I can't speak for the whole team, but I can tell you that I don't think so," Marshall Moses said. "Maybe there will be a couple of guys who have butterflies, but I don't think anybody will have stage fright. It's just another gym, another court, another team. It just has a label on it that says NCAA."
James Anderson said he is going to treat it like any other game, never mind the world will be watching.
"We have played in front of some big crowds, especially playing (at Gallagher-Iba Arena)," he said. "I think we have some of the best crowds. I don't think we will get stage fright. It will be just another game for us."
Departure day: OSU players and coaches boarded a charter flight Wednesday to Dayton. Tennessee players and coaches are busing to Dayton.
State of the union: What's the vibe among OSU players? Said Nick Sidorakis, "I feel real good about where we are at and how we are clicking and how everything is going — how intense practice has been, how intense we are about scouting report and how attentive we have been."
You've got mail: Ford's e-mail inbox is full, which means he has been really busy or he has gotten flooded with e-mails. "Both," he said.
Ford predicted OSU would be sent to Dayton, which is only 134 miles from where (Lexington, Ky.) he attended college.
"The ticket requests have been off the charts," said Ford. "But it's a very good problem to have."
Not happy: Tennessee was disappointed to be handed a No. 9 seed. Only three SEC teams are in the 65-team bracket and regular season champ LSU was a No. 8 seed.
Vols coach Bruce Pearl said the selection committee has a tough job, but indicated LSU and Tennessee deserved better seeds.
"We're terribly disappointed," he said. "I will say you can spin the math any way you want to, but it's my responsibility as an SEC coach to represent the SEC spin, so I do so with a clear conscience."
