Pleasant surprise: Oklahoma State senior guard Terrel Harris was named to the All-Big 12 defensive team Sunday, but he said he didn't know it until a reporter asked for a reaction following a Tuesday practice at the Ford Center.

"For just now finding out, that's kind of exciting," Harris said.

"That was one of my goals. Just knowing that I achieved a goal, that's really positive for me. I'm kind of proud of myself and the coaching staff because they are the ones who really pushed me. Coach (Butch) Pierre and coach (Travis) Ford, they really just pushed me to be a great defender and I took pride in it this year."

Second opinion: James Anderson was chosen second-team All-Big 12 by league coaches, but various newspapers (including the Oklahoman, Austin American-Statesman and Dallas Morning News) placed him on the first team of their all-league squads.

The first OSU player ever to accumulate 1,000 career points as a sophomore, Anderson averaged 25.4 points during the second half of league play.

"The thing about James is he can do it in so many different ways," Ford said. "He used to just be a 3-point shooter. Now he has expanded his game a lot more. It has really helped our team. Hopefully other guys will feed off him a little bit and he will create some things maybe for his teammates as well."

Point guard Byron Eaton said Anderson played great the last month and a half.

"We'll definitely get him the ball," Eaton said.

Go figure: OSU finished in a four-way tie for fourth place during the Big 12 season, but will be a No. 7 seed in the league tournament. The Cowboys were the only team in the logjam to beat each of the other fourth-place finishers (Texas, Kansas State and Texas A&M).

"I have looked at (the tiebreaker formula) and tried to figure it out," Ford said. "I'm sure there is a logical reason behind it. I really don't understand the whole thing."

Texas coach Rick Barnes, asked about the tiebreaker system, said, "I guess ours is better than what they have in football."

Factoids: OSU has never lost a Big 12 Tournament game prior to the quarterfinal round. OSU hasn't lost to Iowa State on Oklahoma soil since 1988.
