UT San Antonio is getting into the football game, DII, (Or whatever it's called). Will this program be a farm team for UT? A place where they can send a few academically challenged meatheads to learn some cypherin', or hide a few extra players while waiting for one of the studs to go to the pen before they move on up to UT? Just wondering. Good hire with Coker.

Coker Is UTSA's Choice: Announcement Could Come Friday
Reported by: Don Harris

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA could have their first head football coach by as early as this Friday. Sources close to the process tell News 4 WOAI's Don Harris that former Miami Coach Larry Coker is the choice.

News 4 WOAI has learned that the interview process ended on Tuesday. Coker, Tulsa's Paul Randolph, and Mel Tjeerdsma from Northwest Missouri were all in town for interviews this week.

UTSA Athletic Director Lynn Hickey would not confirm that Coker is the choice saying that a decision on the coach has not been made. She said she will not rush to get a deal done. However, Hickey added "if things come together quickly an announcement could come as early as Friday." News 4 WOAI spoke with Coker by telephone Tuesday night. Coker said "I hope that is true, but I have not had anyone from the school contact me yet". I hope to hear something soon".

UTSA would like to do that because it would be ideal to introduce the new coach before students go on spring break. There are still steps in the process to be taken incuding Hickey meeting with University President Ricardo Romo.

Maybe in a few years, after they've moved to D-1, we can play them. Might be a good warm-up game for the conference schedule.

Coker is WAY too good of a coach to be coaching at UTSA....

Something better should come his way after this season.

I think he wants to do the Schnellenberger thing (like Fla. Atlantic)

He's old enough and good enough to do what he wants, he has as many rings as Visor Boy;

I think he wants an administration that he can run clean, with authority, and not alot of pressure. Looks like he has it!
