View Full Version : Holder announces student ticket prices for 2009

This was apparently said on RA's radio show this morning by Coach Holder.
Season ticket policy: said prices won’t go up. Factors being the economy and strain that everyday living puts on people’s budget.
Student tickets for Fball $172 b/c of the jump from 7 to 8 games.
Student tickets for Basketball will stay at $ 242. If you buy both fball and bball, you get both for $330. This is called the combination ticket. Said students represent the future as an institution and as an athletic department.
(I borrowed this from another poster; I'll return it later - I promise)
So; FB goes up with an additional game. BB stays the same.
$70 discount below what you spent if you bought both previously, plus extra FB game.

That's pretty much a $70 discount and a free football game. I really doubt the numbers of people who buy basketball number more than a handful. Football plus $158 more for basketball puts prices back to what they were in 2002.

Huh?
Was that the goal?
I don't think any OSU ticket prices are back to 2002 levels.

Holder said students are largely insensitive to the price.

Interesting.
And before I'm accused of calling you out, Cali, this isn't an "attack" on you - it's just curious how Mike Holder seems to have changed his economic philosophy so sharply within the course of a week.

You're an idiot and Snuffy is a stalker.
That analysis was made when he set the prices for last year; WHEN WE WEREN'T ON THE VERGE OF A DEPRESSION.
He ALSO SAID that he would review the pricing for THIS YEAR and see if it needed adjustment (where is that part, huh? Oh, it didn't fit with your attack).
Guess what, he reviewed the policy FROM LAST YEAR, and we're in a SEVERE ECONOMIC RECESSION.
You're an idiot and Snuffy is a stalker (ya happy now, blimblob?)

Before anybody blows a fuse... I was joking... I was trying to hit all the "non points" being made.
I'm typically a funny guy in person...
I'm still at a loss as to why 918 always tries to make Holder out as the fool, but that's another topic.

Who said I was trying to make Holder out as a fool?
I think the man has been brilliant since he took over, and I mean that with complete honesty and sincerity. I just think that sometimes, his decisions are a little radical - even if they are perhaps justifiable.

It just seems that what you're doing, since you're comparing two ticket policies made a year apart and trying to make it look he made both decisions "within a week".

Stop the presses, I found the decoder ring for Cali's bullshit.
“Idiot” is when someone calls Cali out when all the facts are in and Cali ends up with egg on his face.
“Stalker” is someone who has an opinion different than Cali's on a topic that is 98% opinion only (there are no true known facts, ie Sutton, tickets) and does not back down and kiss Cali's ass.
Cali, so if all is grand in the world of ticket prices, why did Holder not only sell tickets to two games for $5.00 per, but allowed attendance for not one, but three games this season? The first two games of the season were free with student ID (maybe the first three I do not remember).
One of the reasons I have my opinion and believe it and 918 opinion s is very similar is we have been on campus for the last 5 years, we still go to games and sit on the floor, the people we run around with are still students, the people we go to classes with all say the same thing: Tickets prices are too high, they were at the beginning of the season and still are.
I applaud Holder for biting the bullet and selling cheap tickets to get students in the stand, and next year ticket prices are great, but to continue with this fallacy that pricing was not the problem was put to rest with the last two home games when students were there when the price was lowered.
And like 918 I like Holder and think he has done, and will continue to do great things for OSU. I think he sometimes does see the needs of the program that can only be fulfilled financially without considering what the end result may be from raising tickets prices or sticking to his guns like he did last years with the Bedlam ticket policy and by not moving the Georgia game when he had a chance to this year ( I will slap myself because I talked about football and basketball tickets in the same thought, I know apple and oranges). I think Holder’s reason for focusing on the needs of the program that can be solved with money come from being one of the few people who see the whole picture and clearly know all sides of the stories. So Cali, please don’t think I hate Holder, I don’t and I know 918 does not, we’re just not in the mood to kiss your ass.

Okay stuffy, take a deep breath... I was just having fun with Billybob... besides 918 is the stalker but I didn't think it was worth it to try and correct sillybob.
what two games were free besides Icy Bedlam? The EXIBITION GAMES? If it was free the "first game", then the students didn't bother to show up.

Holder didn't "bite the bullet" and offer the $10 ticket package; T. Boone Pickens did.
"Students" say that prices are too high at the beginning of the season (even though they didn't go up, and they weren't tied to an ASP), and they still are (even though he didn't rise the prices again, and offers 20% off if you buy FB tickets); but apparently around 1,000 students that paid the SAME price last year didn't think they were too expensive for Sean's 2nd season. Now, all of a sudden, they're to expensive?
I'd bet if you asked the students if tuition was to high, you'd get a yes answer 100% of the time.
You lost me on the FB stuff, but the Bedlam policy worked wonderfully by all accounts, and NOT moving the UGA game to Texas was for the fans and students at the loss of a huge payday.
I never asked anybody to kiss ass; I simply made a point that "students" are not properly using the term "value" when referring to BB ticket prices.

Value, value, value. Why is that so hard to understand?
Pretend that you've been going to the same bar for 16 years, and at this bar, they serve a microbrew in a pint glass and charge $6.00 per glass.
You don't mind this, however, because the beer is the most delicious beer you've ever drank, and this particular bar is the only place on earth where they serve it.
Then one day, the bar replaces its microbrew with a lesser - though still decent - beer. Say, something from the Boulevard Brewing Company, just for examples sake. It isn't bad, but the bar still charges $6.00 per pint. Still, you've come to like the bar, so you don't grumble too much.
A year after changing to Boulevard, you notice that the bar has replaced it with Bud Light, and the price has increased to $7.00 per pint. Bud Light is not nearly as good as Boulevard, but like I said - you enjoy the bar, so you agree to pay $7.00 per pint because you've been going there for almost two decades.
Then one day, the bar stops serving Bud Light. Now, the bar serves Bud Ice in its pint glasses, but the price increases to $7.50.
The next year, the bar decides to change from Bud Ice to Natural Light - which might be slightly better, but it's still only moderately palatable compared to the microbrew that drew you to the bar in the first place. And still, the bar charges $7.50 per pint.
Are you honestly telling me you would pay $7.50 for a pint of Natural Light? Because that is, in essence, the spirit of the argument you've been ramming down our throats for the past week.

I couldn't follow what you were saying... I didn't get past beer either.
No fair using that analogy.
But I'm guessing you said something like... there is only one place to get a beer, and you like beer, so rather than paying a higher price to drink beer with your friends and have a great time, you decide to stop drinking beer and having fun.
Did I get that right?

Seems pretty straightforward: People won't want to pay for things they don't perceive as being a good value, and Cowboy basketball has been far from that the past few seasons.

If you cared about the bar you would pay it. That $7.50 helps pay for the other lesser beers as well.

I already told you that it is a bad analogy. Very bad.
