Cole's return a possibility

Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy told the Tulsa World that wide receiver William Cole has a chance to return to the program as a walk-on. A highly regarded recruit out of Cedar Hill, Texas, Cole sustained a serious knee injury in August and later was dismissed from the team.

If Cole meets certain conditions defined by Gundy, he would be allowed to play again. Initially, Cole would be classified as a walk-on. When dismissed for an unspecified violation of a team rule, Cole lost his scholarship funding.

Former Cowboy linebacker Jeremy Nethon had a similar situation. He was dismissed from the program in 2005 but persuaded Gundy to give him a second chance. Nethon returned as a walk-on and was the defensive MVP of the 2006 Independence Bowl.

"When we're spending scholarship money on players, they have to hold up their part of the deal," Gundy said.

If Cole plays this year, he would be a third-year sophomore. Of Cole's injured knee, Gundy said, "He just needs to get back and get the strength (restored) in that leg. It's not going to take him long, if he dedicates himself to doing it."

Sounds like the ball is in his court. If it doesnt work out, there is nobody to blame but himself.

I sure hope it works out. The kid is a heck of an athlete.
