I don't think I remember him retiring. He's good, but he falls short of my favorite, the other Pistol Pete.

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —Veteran point guard Jason Williams (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3250/;_ylt=AnY15NCvOekUUc_Gfz407IPcvrYF) has applied to the NBA for reinstatement, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports on Saturday.

The NBA Board of Governors must approve a petition sent Wednesday to the league’s 30 teams.

Williams needs a unanimous vote of the Board of Governors to waive a one-year mandatory waiting period to return from the voluntary retired list.

Teams have until February 27 to cast a vote.

The Los Angeles Clippers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/lac/;_ylt=AvSXLDBUwMNpDzQ9GvHG4WHcvrYF) would have exclusive rights to Williams if he is reinstated. Williams signed with the Clippers last summer, but retired before the start of training camp.

Williams last played in 2007-08 with Miami. The 10-year veteran has career averages of 11.4 points and 6.3 assists in 679 games with Sacramento, Memphis and the Heat.http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AmHcRxuaA7oq9T8.uINfoGs6PKB4?slug=txwill iamreinstatement&prov=st&type=lgns
