I'm a big fan of cheesy reality and competition shows.

Any other old school AG fans? Are you watching the new one? Any favorite gladiators? Ones that drive you nuts?

Captain Oveur: "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"

I've been watching it the last few nights. It's pretty cheesy, I kind of wish the Mystery Science 3000 guys would do commentary while we watched or something like that.

I thought the female Marine was pretty darn impressive but her busting her nose on that bar slowed her down quite a bit. Even with that she wasn't far behind the girl that eventually won. I'd love to see her get another shot.

As far as the Gladiators go, I think most of the women actually look like women and I'm expecting Titan to come out of the closet by the time the series is over with.

Speaking of the women actually looking like women....."Crush" is Gina Carano. She is an MMA fighter that I've been a fan of for some time. She's pretty easy on the eyes.

That Helga gal is kinda scary.

on christmas day, i was over at my grandmother's and 2 uncles and a cousin were watching some samaurai show, kind of like a Japanese American Gladiators, it's on Spike TV.

a few days later my uncle that lives in Mexico was up, and he was watching the same show. My aunt says he always watches it in Mexico. I think it's on SpikeTV

There is one on SpikeTV called MXC. They humorously redub a Japanese show called "Takeshi's Castle". It's games and challenges are kind of silly to start with anyway. The odd bit of trivia is that this show stars Takeshi Kitano as Kenny Blakenship. His stage name is Beat Takeshi a great, great, great Japanese actor.

There is another one on the Video Game network (I think it's the GX network or something like that now) called "Ninja Warrior". It is accurately dubbed into English and was a Japanese show kind of like American Gladiator's on crack except the challenges were all against a major league obstacle course. In fact, AG stole one of it's new elements in the new "Eliminator" obstacle course it uses to end the show.

Yes....I have a "yellow fever" obsession with Japanese pop culture.

My wife has watched a few episodes. She was complaining tonight that there's not enough action and too much talking. She just wants the action so she records it on her tivo so she can fast-forward through all of the boring stuff. :)

Right you are Ken.

EDIT: Beat Takeshi's character is actually Vic Romano, not Kenny. Also, G4TV is the station that shows Ninja Warrior.

I do exactly that. I don't care about the "human interest" angle of the contestants. I just want some bashing, hacking, and smacking.

Right you are sir.

Beat Takeshi = Vic Romano in MXC. I believe he's "Count Takeshi" in the original, undubbed version of "Takeshi's Castle".

MXC is the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. What's even better is my wife completely doesn't get it. She sees me swallowing my tongue I'm laffing so hard and she just asks, "Why is that so funny?" Which, of course, makes it even funnier.

The original version in Japan is indeed called, "Takeshi's Castle" which was on in the late 80s.

The main guy Vic is named after a Bill Paxton guy in Miami Vice. Kenny only has a job because his uncle owns the network. Captain Tennille is obviously named. Guy LeDouche is the slimy french journalist that interviews contestants. Anyone else that interviews in various shows is always supposed to be a relative of him (Lyndon LeDouche is a play on Lyndon LaRouche, plus other names that go with 'LeDouche' are Gay, Geek, Gal, Grandman, etc). One of the best parts about it is watching several episodes to see re-occuring character names and what they stand the actors actually are doing that makes it funny. Danny Glands, the question asker, is a play on Danny Gans. Chief Otto Parts, the indian, is a play on Chief Auto Parts. Em and Em are the 2 faggy twins (Eminem).

Also the games have very low brow names (G Spot, Wall Bangers, Skid Markers, Bust a Nut, etc).

I tivo'd the first two episodes but have not watched them yet. I loved the old school version though.

No doubt. My old roomates and I at OSU used to watch that show religiously.

Was watching American Gladiators the other night...I think it was the Monday night episode where there was an Asian chick who was also a grappling champion (or something like that)...anyway, the chick was getting killed the whole game (and lost, by a lot, I think)...but me and my roommate commented that she seemed like someone who'd be on MXC, because she did all the little expressions and hand motions that you'd expect from that show....

I was waiting for Hulk Hogan to turn into Guy LeDouche...

Since I am a fan of the old-school AG, I was stoked when I heard they were bringing it back. I agree that there is a lot more chatting going on than in the old series, but the events are just as intense as ever.

I agree that "Crush" is the hottest of the female Gladiators. Think Amy Lee with a tighter build an short hair ... damn. All the male Gladiators are physical freaks, IMO.
