LUBBOCK, Texas — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team earned its second consecutive road victory on Saturday afternoon, holding on to defeat Texas Tech, 65-60, in front of 8,704 fans inside United Spirit Arena.
The win moved OSU to 14-5 overall, 3-3 in the Big 12. Tech dropped to 12-8 and 3-4. The victory also gave the Cowgirls back-to-back victories in Lubbock for the first time.
OSU used a 9-0 run to race out to a 20-8 lead in the early going. The spurt, which included five-straight points from Kristin Hernandez, was followed by a 10-2 run from the Lady Raiders to pull back within four.
But, junior Andrea Riley scored 10 of the Cowgirls' final 14 points in the half to stake the OSU to a 38-30 lead at the break. Riley hit eight of her 11 shots in the half en route to 19 points and added four assists as well.
In the second half, OSU pushed its lead to double digits six different times, but Tech rallied each time. The Lady Raiders cut the advantage to two on a pair of occasions, but Riley answered each run. The All-American scored the Cowgirls' final eight points to secure the victory.
Riley finished the contest with a game-high 33 points for her fifth 30-point performance in the squad's last seven games.
Shaunte' Smith added a 6-point, 10-rebound night and moved past 800 rebounds for her career, making her one of just three players in school history to record 1,000 points and 800 rebounds.
Seeing her first action since an injury against Baylor on Jan. 17, junior Megan Byford added five points and four rebounds in the second half.
Dominic Seals led the Lady Raiders with 17 points and 11 rebounds on the day.
The Cowgirls' next game is 7 p.m. Thursday when they host Texas.
