Three questions

with Marshall Moses

Position: Forward

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6-6

Weight: 235

Travis Ford talked to you about your dirty locker. How dirty?

I'm actually embarrassed to say this, but it was the worst. ... We have big open lockers and I had stuff all the way to the brunt of it.... I would take things and throw in there and after a while it was just (full). Terrel, this is why I love him so much. He actually cleaned my locker for me. He took trash bags and put stuff in it. It was a trash bag and half full of stuff, so that lets you know how junky it was.

You wore a "Get Ford-ified" T-shirt after the Texas A&M game. Trying to earn brownie points?

Coach Ford and I have a good relationship. The main thing is I respect him as a man. He works hard. He really does. All our staff does. I respect that. That's what I want to be as a ball club. Great guy. Great coach. Why not represent? He's my coach. They were handing these (shirts) out to the crowd before the game and I told one of the ball boys to go snag me one.

Your nickname is "Lava," so you had to erupt sometime?

I just played well. I just wanted to win so bad. Really, I didn't know how much I was going to play. Before the game I just had so much energy to get our team hyped to go out and win. Coach put me in and I just carried that energy into the game and just played hard.

THE BREAKDOWN

Looking back

OSU completed the nonconference portion of its schedule with an 83-56 victory over Savannah State, then opened Big 12 play with a 72-61 triumph over a Texas A&M team that was riding a 10-game winning streak. Marshall Moses and Obi Muonelo secured double-doubles against the Aggies. The Cowboys outscored A&M 19-6 to start each half.

The week ahead

Saturday: 12:45 p.m. at Baylor

Because OSU is on a roll, Ford doesn't want to wait a week before playing again. He wishes the Cowboys could play Wednesday. OSU has won seven straight, most since reeling off 11 in a row to start the 2006-07 season. The Cowboys play a league road opener at Baylor for the second straight season.

The big picture

What got into Marshall Moses?

Moses had never produced more than five points or two rebounds in a Big 12 game, but he exploded for career-highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds against Texas A&M. Coaches and teammates sensed Moses was due because he has been a scorer in recent practices. Ford said attitude is the key. If the sophomore concentrates on being a good teammate instead of worrying about playing time, then everything will be fine. Moses said he and the coach had a maturity talk earlier this season.

Who is the new Marcus Dove?

Dove, a senior last season, was one of the best defenders in college basketball. OSU's new lockdown artist is Terrel Harris, who pestered Texas A&M's Josh Carter into 0-of-7 shooting. Carter, who entered the game as the Aggies' leading scorer, was scoreless for the first time in two years. "Terrel understood his role 100 percent," Ford said. "Some nights his offense may not be there because we ask him to do so much on defense."

Is OSU too small to win in the Big 12?

OSU starts four guards, but outrebounded A&M 38-36. The Cowboys were outscored 26-18 in the paint, but made amends in other areas, outscoring the Aggies 27-6 in points off turnovers and 13-4 in fast break points. Ford said his post players (Anthony Brown, Malcoln Kirkland and Moses) did a terrific job.
