Defensive juggernaut: OSU's Terrel Harris
Published: January 12, 2009
Oklahoma State’s Terrel Harris scored 11 points in the Big 12 men’s basketball opener. If you look at it another way, it was more like 25 points. Harris held Texas A&M leading scorer Josh Carter, who averages 13.9 points, scoreless on Saturday night.
OSU coach Travis Ford called the effort "nothing short of phenomenal.”
"Terrel understood his role 100 percent,” Ford said. "Some nights his offense may not be there because we ask him to do so much on defense. That was the situation tonight, even though he came up with 11 points. His main objective tonight was to try and defend.”
Harris showed his ability to be a lock-down defender last year, particularly against Texas, when he held down sharp shooter A.J. Abrams. But last year, that was Harris’ secondary job, as OSU’s main defensive threat was two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Dove. This year, Harris appears to have embraced that role. He’s played like Dove, but with more natural offense.
