That sounds good to me. As I remember, he did a good job the first time he was at OSU.

I hope it is true. He did a good job in the SEC and it can't hurt recruiting in Texas.

I bet he will be getting some new orange stuff.

As I understand the teaser, it is reported with source but not official, is that where we are? Still, probably very likely.

Assuming that he's coming. If we get through February with him we should be OK.

Reports connect Herring to OSU job
By Scott Wright
Published: January 12, 2009

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State’s search for its next defensive coordinator might or might not be finished.

On Sunday evening, GoPokes.com reported that Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring had accepted an offer to be OSU’s new defensive coordinator. But within an hour of posting the initial report, the Web site had amended it, citing sources who both confirmed and denied that Herring had taken the job.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday night that Herring had interviewed at OSU, but no formal agreement had been reached.

Attempts to contact Herring on Sunday were unsuccessful. Oklahoma State associate athletics director for media relations, Kevin Klintworth, said that he could not confirm an offer to any candidate Sunday night.

Herring, who was a candidate for the same job two years ago when Tim Beckman was hired, worked at OSU as a graduate assistant, then linebackers coach from 1981-85.

Herring has been a defensive coordinator at Arkansas, North Carolina State — where his squad once led the nation in total defense — Clemson and TCU. He has three years of experience coaching linebackers in the NFL with Dallas and Houston.

Herring would be a HUGE home run get for the Cowboys...

I'll just say it looks like RA has "done it again".... but I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough.

Hmmm...I clicked my link above and found that that "report" has been removed. That does it. No more going to Robert Allen for sports news.

And now he admits that he "jumped the gun." http://oklahomastate.scout.com/

What does that mean? Are negotiations ongoing or stalled? Was there ever a meeting with Herring at all? What?

Rivals is where it's at!!!!!

And for the bargain price of only $10 month!!!!!

ALMOST got my hopes up on this one.

Yeah, meeting was held...

he "jumped the gun" with the RB coach too... but it was just confirmed today.

If I were a guessing man, I'd assume that Herring wants a say-so in his staff, and Gundy could be balking at that (but then, I'm just guessing, since I don't even know if he was actually offered the job).

I missed their announcement. Who did they announce?

I don't want to get into a p-match between the two sites, but don't you think that RA has better "sources" in the AD, since he's got media access and is actually in there a whole lot? I don't claim to know who the rivals contacts in the AD might be... I'm just asking.

Nobody. That is the whole point. They don't go forth with information until they can confirm something. Especially not on something like this. They do sometimes get somethings wrong but it is very seldom because their first priority is not to "break the news". Unlike some others.

And RA's "sources" are obviously not nearly as good as some people like to think. If they were there would not be so much false information coming out of that site.

And all the moderators at Rivals have media access also so RA has no advantage in that area. And it sounds like they interview and talk with coaches on a regular basis.

You want information go to Rivals.
You want sunshine go to RA.

okay... that has certainly not been my experience; and I would contend that it is most often the reverse. Maybe rivals has toned it down some lately since they got burned so many times in the past...

Rivals has "media" access? hmmm... unless they work for a print or TV service, I don't believe that they do; media credentials aren't usually issued for web sites... they could have, I don't know, but I believe OSU does put limits on folks that only work for web sites.

I agree RA does pump the sunshine; and I prefer a good dose of optimism.... as far as "information"... they have different models of operation.

I just don't see why anybody feels the need to bash any of the folks that cover OSU for us. You're welcome to your opinion, I just don't see bashing one over the other does OSU (or us as fans) any good.

1st, Few schools give out media credentials to websites. Especially Big 12 schools, usually they have good sources though. Robert Allen usually tries to block any website from being first out there. He don't like competition.

A school like a MAC, WAC, Horizon League, Atlantic 10 school usually will give Rivals access. When I worked in the SID office at TU, we included them on press releases, but didn't go out of our way for them.

That's a pretty strong statement with nothing presented here to support it.... sounds a lot like sour grapes to me.

I don't see how RA would have the "power" to block anything, especially anything related to any other website... please explain that.

I'm just glad to hear they are talking to a guy like Herring. If the new DC is Herring or somebody of that quality, we we will have fell in a pile of manure (losing Beckman)and came out smelling like a rose!

The way RA is getting hung on this deal is laughable. It's obviously undeserved. Everyone who's calling him on this are saying he's done this before, and "all the time", yet have no evidence, stories, or instances of previous hicups by RA. I've been a GP member for years and RA has been right more than wrong and always explains the "whys" behind his mistakes. Just goes to show how restless the fan base is to have a coordinator in place.

On top of being mediocre at best, again this year on defense, we've got the offense to make a run at this thing next year. Only if our defense improves from medicore to good or even solid. I've heard that a million times. Let's hope this year it happens.

I'm sure Holder is aware of the offense and may be willing to support the pay increase to get a really good DC.
RA didn't make the only mistake today or this week for that matter. I was happy to hear a name they may be considering. It offers hope.
