For those of you going to the OSU/A&M basketball game, better dress warm! I don't know if it is because of the arena being half-full or what but there was a COLD (not cool) breeze blowing through the 300 sections at the Savannah State game. My wife and I moved several times hoping we would find a seat where it didn't feel like the cold air was blowing down on us and we never found it. We ended up watching the second half with our coats on.

Fan,
It has always been cold even with the full crowds. When the air circulators turn on and if you are in the air path it is very chilling. I do recall putting my jacket on a few times.
Not sure where your tickets are, we moved down 6 rows this year and based on the attendance it would appear we could have easily moved into the bottom bowl. We have held tickets to BB since the expansion and FB for 25 years and had the Posse Point thing thrown in my face when I inquired about better seats.
I was listening to the pre-game on Triple on the drive up for the NW State game and Tom Dirato was stating some of the observations I have made as well. Tom was indicating that a bad crowd previously was 8500-8700. Now our good non-conference is in the 5000 range.
Tom observed that the product has declined while the prices have increased. He felt that it would be another year or so before we returned to the level of BB that our fans had been accustomed to. He wondered out loud if during that time our fans would find that there are other things to do rather than driving to Stillwater for a BB game.
The lack of support from the student body was even more surprising. An inability to sell out the student tickets is a real issue for the long term.
Holder has some serious decisions to make. Does he open the lower bowl to people who want tickets. What policy change does he implment to bring the students back to the arena.
Frankly, I would like him to change and align the schedules a little better. If I am going to drive to Stillwater, why not have a Wrestling match early Saturday afternoon, the Cowgirls at 4:00 and the men at 7:00. I would like to go to a Wrestling match, but frankly, I am not going to make the drive just for that event, combine it into a triple header and I spend money at the concession stand.

It was cold Tuesday night. I was on the floor and when you can notice it being cold down there you know it is. As far as the student attendance coach Ford ias giving gifts to the students in attendance for the game. The past three games the student attendance can be chalked up to the break, but for overall student ticket sale, it comes down to money. When the total ticket package for the season is right at $300.00 some students cannot afford it, and some can't justify it.
While the attendance issue is not limited to students, I'd bet my next paycheck that student tickets wouldn't sell out even if they were $5 a pop. The current student population either doesn't care about OSU basketball, and/or would rather be doing something else with their free time. Hard to believe that, not too long ago, we used to camp out or wait in long lines for hours in the cold in order to get a seat.

I agree with Eddie leaving, even though he should have be, it's like everyone knows the colonel's secret herbs and spices.
-Winning has been down. No NCAA trips for 3+ years.
-Economy is tighter. People don't travel as much for weekday games.
-Stadium is bigger. 5000 in old GIA was still rowdy, 5000 in new GIA, notsomuch.
-More competition. OKC has a team, and UO has improved. For a while ORU was better than us.
-Students are not used to "packing the house". GIA's home-court advantage has lost some of it's mystique and luster to the kids that haven't seen it.
-No marquee head coach. Eddie was that, Sean wasn't. Ford may be.
We are not a bad team, we are just don't have alot of guys that "got it" like Desmond, Brooks, Jonzen, Vic Williams, Mo Baker, Rutherford, Andre Williams, IMAC, Gottlieb, Lord Byron, Big Country, Adkins, TC, Bobik and the Grahams.
we've had good players, but not guys that really had love for GIA like JamesOn, Cooper, Boggan, Monds, Torre, Jamaal Brown and such.
I'd say Eaton, Dove, Harris, Obi and Hatch are the only guys in recent years that appeared proud to sport the jersey.
Basicly, I am not seeing alot of passion on the part of the players.

Fog is really, really heavy today... can't see much of anything.
The air isn't that bad (as compared to the 70's when it got such a bad rap). Honestly I cannot remember the last time that there was a stage 1 smog alert, it seems like years, and almost a decade since a stage 2.

That's good to hear. So Calif. emission laws have really helped.

This is the first season I have ever been cold in G-I. I'm hoping it is the lack of crowd but if it isn't then I'm going to have to dress in layers. And we have had the same seats since G-I was renovated.

I was cold in my seats ever since the expansion. We moved down three rows this year to hopefully get out of the draft and thought we were doing OK the first few times we sat in our new seats. We had not sat in them much though because there were so many good seats available down low since the students aren't going. We sat up there last Saturday and I was shivering the whole game. Didn't have a jacket since it was 70 outside. It's sad that we spent so much and it's such a nice arena, but the climate control is so awful. I have seen people at games before wearing winter coats with stocking caps and mittens or gloves. We might as well get rid of the roof as the winter temps outside are often warmer than what we get in the arena.
