View Full Version : Recruiting
Looking at the current commits for KU, MU, KSU, and Neb...the only
one not appearing to be doing real well is KSU.
MU is kicking tail (including a number that are current commits that
listed us as 2nd place/runner ups).
Also KU and Neb. have a few kids committed that we offered.
Our current 16 aren't a bad lot but it would sure be nice to finish
this class off with about 3 or 4 four star kids  Hey
a guy can dream can't he...
Any word on new commitments? Still at 16?

Still at 16.
I think that DE Sam Montgomery and WR Ruben Randle are pretty much pipe dreams. OSU isn't on Montgomery's list of schools he wants to visit and I think Randle is down to LSU or OU. But I guess we'll just wait and see.
The latest estimations over on Rivals is a class of 23 to maybe 25. So we have 7 to 9 guys to go. I'd like to see us get any (or all) of these guys....
WR - Cobi Hamilton *** (Taylor)
TE - Tracy Moore *** (Brewer)
DT - Kenneth Garrett *** (Does not have an offer)
DT - Vinson Bass *** (Don't know what is going on here)
OLB - Chris McAllister *** (Spencer)
ILB - DeDe Lattimore *** (Spencer)
ILB - Jordan Barnes *** (Luper just had a in-home)
CB - Demontre Hurst *** (Jones recruiting but favors Miami)
S - Brian Jackson *** (Jones)
There is also an OT (Aubrey Phillips ***) that Taylor is recruiting but I think Bowie fills the Tackle spot this year and Phillps is High on Tennessee.
I think we'll PROBABLY get Moore and Lattimore but who knows. Barnes sure sounds interested in us. I bet Hurst goes to Miami. We have a shot at Hamilton unless OU offers. I think McAllister really likes Baylor. I don't think anything is really happening with Garrett (he's just an Oklahoma kid I wouldn't mind seeing play at OSU).

If we were for some reason going to take two RBs I would love to see OSU get Anthony Miller *** out of Dallas, TX.
If we don't get Cobi Hamilton another good WR would be Billy Foster who is a JUCO.

It's interesting that this Texas player has only one Texas team (TCU) on his list, and has interest in 6 Big 12 teams.

Donte Foster WR (Guthrie) is someone we should get. I wanted Tim Flanders for two years and I guess the coaches aren't interested in being my personal Santas. Pearlie Graves should no way go to Michigan and Michael Doctor shouldn't be going to Oregon State either.:vomit-smiley-001:
Any word on any more of the Ga. kids we offered?

Jbug..........I know you are out of State....as I am some/most of the time.
I know you value recruiting...........as I do
It seems to me you are really passionate about this subject.
Would you consider being our new recruiting coordinator? I don't mean OSU Cowboys......I'm talking about ostatesports.com !

I was thinking along those lines as well, only I was thinking. I know it's a scary thought that I would think, but maybe the admins could create a Recruiting Board. That way, JBug could talk to himself, unless he gets some of the info he's actually looking for.
Just a thought.
<-----Kind of busting Jbug's balls a bit. Only in love, though, Homie.

Man, do I love it when someone catches lame humor intended for irony.
Jbug, we aren't ragging on you. You are starving for info like we all are....we get it. But funny still :)

We'll keep supplying you information and you can keep going orgasmic.:biggrin:
Hey! It is the least we can do for a friend and passionate OSU fan.
What I wish is that we were in on this kid:
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=3145458
I know he has had a visit from our OSU but we are not even on his list and it looks like Georgia may be where he is headed. Can you say: STUD ? Can you say: Very Dez like ?
OK...OK...
I know I do real well for a bit then I get a NEED for my recruiting fix.
Thanks for understanding and I accept your ragging in the form
of 'beat' old jbug long enough and we'll redirect his interest
I'm just glad to have this board as an information source and an
outlet for frutstration :food-smiley-004:
Peace and PRESS ON Pokes !
Happy Happy and Merry Merry to all.

P.S. Memphis, I too wish we were in on such a wide out!:pete:
P.P.S. Hey no one commented on what I stated about MU, KU, KSU, and Neb recruiting so far??
Did interest me since a lot of the MU, KU and Neb. recruits also had offers from OState

Here ya go jbug... I got your fix....
Word is that 3 star TE Tracy Moore has committed to Colorado. :(
3 star OLB - Chris McAllister committed to Baylor
5 star WR - Ruben Randle will visit OSU on 1/9
I think 3 star WR Cobi Hamilton is an OU lean and 3 star ILB Joel Knight is an Ole Miss lean.
3 star LBs DeDe Lattimore and Jordan Barnes are still available. We have decent shots at both. Probably more with Lattimore.
I hope we get 2 star ATH Quinn Giles also. I think he would make a good slot receiver. He has a visit set up as well.
If nothing else this new sleeper commit, Charlie Moore, has impressive numbers even if he is just a 2 star ATH/QB. Over 1000 yards rushing, just shy of 2000 yards passing and had 39 TDs combined. Had over 75 tackles on defense with a few INTs and TFL. Probably the best athlete on his team and his coach wanted him on the field all the time.
How was that?
FIRE: Thanks...but I kind of thought Moore would get an OSU offer.
At least I thought he would be good for us??
Thanks again,
jbug

Which Moore you talking about there?
If it is Tracy Moore (from Union) you are talking about he did get an offer during an in-home visit from Gundy and Brewer. In an interview before that he said he would probably commit to OSU right after he got one but for some reason he didn't. It was reported on the Sports Animal he committed to Colorado.
Long time until Signing Day though (Feb 4th).
Guess none but Gundy know the REAL story but if Tracy got
the in Home offer, then went to Colo. and accpeted...well
hack him (if that is what happened). The RB (smith) said
Moore wanted to be with him at OSU and that Tracy wanted
to go to OSU...so who knows???
Thanks again
Check link... And are we still headed for about 24 IN THIS CLASS?http://oklahomastate.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?sport=1&school=58&year=2009#page3

I have not seen any confirmation that Tracy Moore committed to Colorado yet, so maybe there is more to this. It wouldn't be the first time the SA has gotten something wrong.
From what I've heard it will be a class somewhere between 23-25.

5 star DT Jamarkus McFarland from Lufkin, Texas commits to OU.
pokerhand
12-26-2008, 01:20 PM
I know nothing about McFarland other than he reminds me (physically) of XLK way too much to get excited about him.
Ah,McF is the REAL deal!!! I think everyone knew we had only 2
chances with him...slim and none.
But maybe in the next couple of years kids will realize that
OSU has mucho more to offer.
I do hope we pick up at least a couple more DT's and LB'ers.
QUESTION??? All of a sudden we have interest and visits pending
from 3 (more) qb's... Anyone know if this is just chance or
on purpose or kids likely to play other postions???

qb prospects...all of a sudden???

jbug:cowboy::biggrin:
I don't know about whom you are speaking...
We only have one in this class so far (Chelf), and I'm not convinced that he'll end up being a QB unless we don't sign any more.
Anybody that we sign will redshirt, which means by the time that they can play we'll only have Sr Cate and Jr Weeden (plus redshirts from this class).
IMO, we need at least one quality QB in this class... Chelf could pan out, but I don't believe that he is that QB.
Once Cate is gone, we'll only have Sr Weeden and whichever RsSo QBs there are from this class.... we need some QBs.
With that said, two of the "QBs" that we've taken in this class are slated for other positions.
We're still trying to get that grade risk kid (can't remember his name, and possibly the Tettleton kid). We could use both, IMHO.
Thanks Cali...and I too can't remember all the names...
but Rollison (sp) is I believe the grade risk kid, but there
are reportedly 2 other qb's scheduled to be in during the
next 3 weeks and not Tettleton as one of
em??
Just curious because most say that we want the Jr. over
at Sand Springs (think it is?) for next years qb...hmmm?
According to Rivals...Coach Glen Spencer is having the best recruiting year
...even over Joe D and others..
He might be the NEW D Co after a year like this, especially if the D shows
up tonight.

Clint Chelf will play QB and Charlie Moore has been recruited to play slot receiver probably. It's said that he'll get a "shot" at QB but Orie Lemon (yes the LB) got a "shot" at QB also and we see how that worked out.
Tyrik Rollison is the other QB we're getting a visit from. It's just a matter of him taking care of the buisness in the classroom. If he does and he signs a LOI our recruiting class list will say we have three QBs in this class but it will only be two.
Deaton is the main target for 2010 from what everybody is saying.
I think Chelf will do well. I think the biggest knock against him is that he played for Enid and they were not very good.
Thanks fireman...but I did read, and don't remember the kids name, that another
fairly highly rated qb was coming to visit??
Sure wish some of these were LB'ers and Dt's :^)

Well no other QB is on the Rivals visit list other than Chelf, Moore and Rollison. But they could have made a mistake.
Now 5 star WR Rueben Randle played QB for his Senior season... maybe that's it.
I doubt OSU takes any high school defensive tackles any time soon. I think they go with the approach of taking DEs and growing them into DTs in the weight room and the training tables. The DTs they do take will come out of the JUCO ranks. I think that DE we took from the state of Arkansas will be grown into a DT as was Gray and Nicholas from last year's class.
I think we should take about 5 or maybe even 6 LBs in this class. If past recruiting class are any indication we'll be lucky if 2 of them finish their careers at OSU. Take as many as you can reasonably get and play the odds.

Our needs are really beginning to be obvious now. This is another game we should have won, but couldn't finish off. That will come with just a little more talent on defense. I knew we were in trouble when all we could score was 17 on them in the first half. I like those two or three touchdown cushions going into the second half.. next year? Go Pokes!!!!

Defense was not the problem, Ken... the problem was a QB that couldn't throw and a star receiver that couldn't play... allowing them to stack the box and force us to give them ball over and over and over.
14 points in the 2nd half means that UO has the ball most of the time.
Our defense stoped them in a goal line stand, blocked a FG attempt and many, many other fine plays, but they can only do so much....
at least be fair in your criticism.

FROM THE TW: In the 42-31 Holiday Bowl defeat, the Cowboys gave up 565 total yards. Oregon rushed for 307 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per attempt. The Ducks scored 35 second-half points.
The defense had a few moments where they stepped up to make something happen but overall the tackling was very poor, the defense was not aggressive at all, they didn't hit hard and there was blown assignment after blown assignment. And that is basically what the coaching staff has said in post game interviews, not just my observation.
The defense is a BIG problem. There is no getting around that.

Ok I am going to say something here, and PLEASE don't jump my rear about it because I think Zac is a REAL GAMER to the nth degree, but we have a QB that locks in on a receiver too much. Not only with his eyes but with his body language.
Zac needs to do 7 on 7 drills this off season and learn that there is more than one person that can catch a ball. It makes it so easy to always throw to Dez when he has such great moves and great hands. But opposing defenses know that. There were several times within the bowl game where Zac had an outlet pass available to a wide open man yet missed the opportunity. His reads have to become quicker and more complete. And his eyes/body language have to become neutral on a pass play.
And having coached kids I can tell you that this is absolutely one of the hardest things to teach.
Just my humble opinion.
Now back to recruiting talk.

I agree but don't take the bowl game as something that is proof. Once Zac seperated his shoulder his throws were not on target and Dez is the one receiver that could make up for that...

Agreed. Any and all players can improve. TV showed a replay where Bowling was wide open for a TD early in the game and Zac went to Dez on an out route. We still scored later in the drive but it took a few more plays to do it.
