I've made plans for two weeks to go Christmas shopping with my husband today in OKC. We have nurses lined up, we have someone coming to sit with my mom, etc.. a lot of planning had to go into this.

I can't tell you how much i been looking forward to this. I haven't been able to go ANYWHERE by myself in over five months, and nowhere with my husband since may when all this started. The last time i was able to go anywhere, it was driving to/from Baptist hospital. I need this break really bad. Not for the shopping, just for a break...and some time spent with Bill. I have finally talked myself into doing it, after being convinced my mom would be ok with me being gone, and nothing should happen on this day.

Then i wake up to this. Is it really bad there?

Maybe i'm not supposed to go.

Freezing drizzle here in Stillwater. Conditions are not bad although there are a few slick spots. I think it is much worse in OKC. Be careful!

I was wondering if the weathermen were being the drama queens that they always are.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......this was supposed to hit TOMORROW.

Someone driving in OKC this morning, please give me a road report.

I've been watching the news here in OKC since 6:30am this morning. There have been lots of accidents here in the metro and some on I-40 west. They are calling it black ice but not a shut down situation. I think if you take your time and not be in a hurry you should be fine. The only reason I didn't get up to Baptist hospital this earlier morning (my dad is there) is because there was a wreck on Lake Hefner Parkway and I would have been stuck for a while. I will probably venture out a little later this morning.

Hope this helps!

Bev.

Thanks Bev. Hopefully by the time we leave (around 10:00) things will be better.

Is your dad ok? I hope so.

Well, dad is having it rough right now... he had surgery on his colon last Monday (for colon cancer) and air got into his abdomen. They had to open him up again and somehow the resection didn't hold. I don't want to get to graphic here! Anyway, he is on the heart hospital floor at Baptist (mainly because of his heart history) but he his holding his own. I was trying to get up there early because the pulmonologist makes rounds between 7:30-8am. Hopefully, they will get him off the vent. today. He already pulled out an arterial line (measures bp in the artery); they didn't have him restrained enough! They'll learn. He's pretty tough and his numbers look good.

Back to the roads (listening right now!) they have sanded & salted the main roads here in the metro. Where are you heading to shop? Be careful!

Bev.

Wow Bev, i sure hope Dad gets better, and i hope he comes off the vent today. Who was the surgeon, if you don't mind me asking. We had Jennifer Mcneil. The doctors are Dr Rankin and Dr Murray. I'll be praying for dad starting right now. Poor guy.

We're having resection problems as well...That, and the ischemia is back, and has moved to another part of the colon. We won't be doing more surgeries though.

Probably headed to Penn Square mall, Santa Fe trading company on Reno, and Mathis Brothers. Maybe hit the new target in yukon. Depends how long i can drag the hubby around before he starts kicking and screaming. I suspect he'll be ok, he knows i need this break. I don't want to be gone all day, but i'll be calling home once an hour.

Those stores are all on major roads so they should be treated with sand/salt. Probably a good day, actually, to be shopping; should be thin people wise.

Dad's surgeon was/is Chris Davis.

Chris Davis is Jennifer Mcneil's partner.

Stay safe if you make the drive to the hospital. I'll do the same

Prayers for you and Dad, Bev.

Michelle,

The roads definitely have a thin layer of slickery on them, but they are not treacherous. I made my 20-25 drive in about 30 minutes. Drove 30-35 instead of 45-50 on the back roads.

Not sure about the main roads but I think you'll be fine either way. I haven't heard about I-40, but I think you'll make it around the city ok.

boss came out from okc this morning. I 40 ok, slicker in okc than here. You should be fine if you are careful, which you will be.

The roads are iffy here in OKC. My normal 20 minute drive this morning took 45 minutes. However, I think most of it was because people were being cautious. Traffic was moving about 20-30 MPH on I-35 going south from Edmond, but once I got to the turnpike to go west, traffic was moving about 50 MPH. It is slick...in spots....you just can't tell.

I would say "COME ON", just drive slow and be leaving town by the time rush hour starts. You should be fine.

The roads are not really that bad but it is the idiot drivers you have to watch for...

Thanks everyone. We're going to go for it. On one hand, I'm so excited to get out for a little bit, on the other, feeling guilty as hell for leaving. I need this though. I need a break for my own sanity.

I'm going for the purpose of buying my momma a ring she fell in love with. It'll be a big surprise for Christmas.

Everyone stay safe today.
