OSU: Three questions

By BILL HAISTEN World Sports Writer

Among defensive personnel who did not play in 2007, or played only sparingly, who on the OSU roster might make an impact next season?

Safety Andre Sexton, who will be a junior in 2008, is confident that ends Richetti Jones and Ugo Chinasa will consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks. A freshman, Jones was a nationally renowned recruit who redshirted in 2007 because of a hip injury sustained while at Dallas Lincoln High School. Chinasa will be a sophomore in 2008. "We can't wait to see (Jones) next year with his speed and strength," Sexton said. "Coming off that edge, he'll give a lot of guys trouble. He'll be a force on the outside."

With offensive coordinator Larry Fedora having left to become the head man at Southern Miss, Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy called plays during the Insight Bowl. Might he call plays on a full-time basis in 2008?

Gundy says he has not decided, but he seems tempted to give it a try. "Before this game, I didn't think I'd want to do it (next season). But I had a lot of fun," he said. "I just have to debate how much work goes into it. Can you do both (be the head coach while coordinating the offense)? Some guys do it."

In this decade, OSU has had three elite wide receivers -- Rashaun Woods, D'Juan Woods and Adarius Bowman. Is Dez Bryant the fourth? As a freshman, Bryant had 43 catches for 622 yards and six TDs.

Yes, Bryant is the real deal. He was dominant in the Insight Bowl, beating the Indiana secondary for nine catches, 117 yardsand two scores. "Dez certainly has a lot of talent," Gundy said. "He needs to learn to play when the ball is not in his hands." Translation: Bryant must become a better blocker. He should watch tape of Adarius Bowman. OSU coaches say Bowman is a phenomenal blocker.

hey jim do you have D'juan and Bowman's stats ? I hope that Dez can put up great numbers and be the playmaker that we need. if Mike can recruit two more big wrs then we may have a even better offense next year.

I saw the stats posted on gopokes.... Dez blew everybody away for comparable freshman numbers... not even close by any of the other great receivers in their freshman seasons.
