PURSELL - Billy Edward. After a nearly year long battle with lung cancer, Billy died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Friday evening, November 28, 2008. Billy was born on September 13, 1934, to Chester and Hazel Pursell. He was married to Mary Jerene "Jerrie" Pugh on April 23, 1955. Billie and Jerrie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 23, 2005. When he died, they had been married for 53 and one half years. Billy was a member of IBEW Local #584 as a heavy industrial electrician. He was an active, card carrying Class "A" Journeyman until his death. He was an uncompromising OSU wrestling fan. Billy was known to all his friends and wrestling fans as the Wrestling Junkie. Billy is survived by: his wife, Jerrie; sons, Mark and Gregory; daughter, Christie and her husband Jason; and two grandchildren, Chanda and Trae. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the St. Francis Hospice, 6600 S. Yale, Suite 350, Tulsa, OK 74136. 918-494-6465, or Oklahoma State Foundation -WRESTLING PROGRAM, 400 So. Monroe, P.O. I heard from one of our members that Billy's service was wonderful. I thought about Billy and Jerrie all day, and hated that I couldn't be there.
I understand that John Smith was at the service. What a great testament to Billy's love of OSU wrestling that is!
Our hearts are with you today, Jerrie. We're missing him, too.

It was a beautiful service! And, a packed house! Jerrie was just as warm and beautiful as always.
I got there early with the DVD and met the funeral director. We played it to make sure everything was working. When the family arrived, I worked my way up to Jerrie and was standing right next to her when she told the funeral director "Mr. Orange-Power will be here with the DVD. I don't know what he will be wearing". I leaned over and said, "Jerrie, I'm right here!" She did not recognize me without the jumpsuit. And, neither did the grandkids!
Scottie was there! He drove from Cordell to Newkirk, then to Tulsa and back to Cordell! That's 533 miles according to Mapquest! We sat together.
The preacher was fabulous! He started with the video slide show of Billy. Then friends and family got up to speak, along with Coach John Smith! He brought several of the players from the wrestling team. It was so wonderful to have him there!
The one point that Coach Smith made that really stood out to me was that Billy never talked to him about wins & losses. Billy always talked about the program. He truly cared about the program. Billy was one of the greatest OSU fans and he will be missed!
Apparently, Billy is not the best driver in the world. He used the breaks & accelerator to excess! The car in front of him was something to take down, not just pass!
The highlight of the service is when they played the fight song! And, yes, we clapped and sang along!
Billy's family was just wonderful people. I spent a good time talking with Jerrie's brother from Iowa.
I know Billy is very proud and thankful for all the family and friends that love him!
I'm SO happy you were there representing for Billy's OSU family.

I want to add that the pastor was a Republican/Sooner fan having a service for a Democrat/"uncompromising" OSU fan. We did have some laughs about that, but the best thing he said was he'd held services for over 55 years, and "he truly enjoyed this one". That speaks volumes about Billy, his family, his life, and those of us who were blessed to have known him.
