On the other hand, that running play was fairly benign. We should have stopped it easily. We gave up.

I hope the BCS gives it to Texas. uo lost to them on a neutral field. How can you over look that if the regular season is a playoff?

Well sure, but Stoops wanted those points if we were going to give them to him.
If he didn't want them he would have gone to a knee.

Bull Sheeet. The game was over with 25 seconds left. He could have ended it with a knee, but he chose to run one more play with some hope that they might score 60 or more points in three straight games in a row.
Stoops was lucky, because of the distance to the goal. He wanted more and the distance from the goal hid it for him.
If uo had been on our one yard line with 25 seconds left and Stoops ran it up the middle, I bet you wouldn't say he tried to have mercy. I believe we would also have the clear evidence that he wanted more and there would be no question in anyone's mind.

Two things about the last TD; They are trying to win a BCS Computer scheme game, and are trying to make their margin of victory look as good as possible. So, I get that. They are trying to wrongfully leap UT, but I don't blame them for trying.
Second of all, this is FREAKIN BEDLAM. If we are upset, then perhaps we should put the running back into the turf, so he doesn't score.
Mr. November doesn't owe us any favors. If we don't like it, tackle the ugly guy with the football.

I believe it was more personal for Stoops. His wins in Stillwater have all been close and he was tired of being reminded of it by the media. The total number margin of his wins in Stillwater just increased by 20 points.

Stoops ran it up the middle because 2 of our DTs went down with injury right before that. It was a bitch move on his part and THEN he starts back peddling after the game with the reporter "oooh, you're not going to get me into that" BS about the BCS. He scored that TD at the end solely for "style points". If I had a vote and was watching that game, that alone would've caused me to vote for UT. ZeroU has zero class.

Weird things can happen in just 25 seconds. I like the fact that Gundy didn't give up to the very end and gave Stoops the opportunity to end it without any further scoring.
I was glad that Stoops was given the chance to show his true colors in not taking a knee in response to the Cowboy's time out. It also shows that it doesn't take much to piss Stoops off.

I have to agree with Bob on this one... "if you're going to p$ss around and delay the ending, then we're going to keep playing too"....
What else could he have done... IMO, Gundy asked for it and he got it.
If Mike is going to keep playing to the end, then he'd better make it really clear to the players that they also need to try up until the last tick.

I don't remember what year or game, but we did the same thing a few years ago. I think its been since Gundy has been head coach, and if I remember correctly it was in the same damn endzone. East end.
We had the ball inside the 5 and were going to run out the clock, when the defense called time out. Everyone at the time said they had it coming. We were content to run out the clock, until they called time out. Oops, I'm sorry, are you guys still playing? We thought it was over. We'll just go ahead and punch it in, thanks for letting us know.
Same situation, different end of the stick, and now we are gonna get all indigent?
Hypocritical at best.

Take a knee.
Wouldn't it have been great if uo had fumbled that last hand off and the Cowboys had picked it up and run the length of the field for a TD.
Next, an onside kick is successful. A long pass into the WEZ for a TD to tie the game. That would have been sweet beyond words, and it could not possibly happen if Gundy does not call that last timeout or if Stoops had ended the game as a sportsman.

^^ But in that scenario, it shows that it was still possible for the Pokes to come back, which means taking a knee (especially when the other team has timeouts) is not going to effectively win the game...so, just run the ball, get a couple of first downs and seal the deal...
I mean, for goodness sakes, he ran up the middle, with no lead blocker, no guard/tackle pulling around, and just hat-on-hat football...it shouldn't be too difficult to stop...
And also, when Gundy called that timeout, it showed he thought they still had a chance to make a comeback...that means the game's not over and taking a knee isn't going to end it...

Thank you, Mr. Billy Tubbs. While you're at it, why don't you talk about hanging half-a-hundred on 'em by halftime. Oh, and be sure to honk and laugh as you drive by anyone on the roadside with a flat tire.
The Sooner mentality of sportsmanship being only for the meek and weak and rubbing the other team's nose in it is actually a loving thing to do to show them how far they still have to go to be competitive with the Big Red is sad.
I, personally, felt that last touchdown was on us. I felt Stoops ran a basic play our defense should have been able to stop. But to be seating in the donor section and having four seemingly respectible middle-aged OU fans (dressed as you'd expect successful businessmen to be dressed) behind me continuously cheering Stoops on for "style points" that last series made it clear to me the concept of sportsmanship has long since died in the mentality of even mature Sooner fans who likely have degrees from the institution.
Your comment drips of Billy Tubbs and make me worry our fanbase is buying into the currrent-day Sooner belief that sportsmanship is a thing of the past. If I'm wrong, I apologize. But your terminology bothers me.

First, thanks to Legelegel for the welcome.
Second, Jakeman, I haven't been on this board long enough to have a sense of what kind of fan you are, so I'll accept you're a serious and respectful O-State fan unless you prove to me otherwise. But in your previous post regarding our showing the same lack of sportsmanship as OU, you couldn't remember the game, the year or the coach. It seems to me you should do some research before shooting from the hip with such a spotty memory.
But let's say your memory is right, only faded. And let's say it was Coach Gundy who ran up the score. It's my firm belief, and I have said to all those who felt Gundy was a bad selection as a head coach because of .... (fill in whatever the complaint might be), you have to be patient with a first-time head coach. They will make mistakes. But if they're quality coaches they will show improvement and maturity in their coaching abilities as they gain experience. The fanbase has to live with their learning process. Leonard Hamilton was a classic example of a first time head coach growing up on-the-job. (And if you went to any of his early games, you know what I mean.) Now, Mike Gundy is an excellent example as well. If he made that mistake in his first year (since we're working with a faded memory, you should give me the benefit of the doubt it probably was his first year on the job), I'd expect it was the arrogance of a young coach making an unnecessary statement. Bob Stoops showing a lack of sportsmanship in his 10th year as a head coach is not the same.
But my overall point, for which it appears you're labeling me as a whiny ass fan, is sportsmanship certainly left the house at Norman with the arrival of Billy Tubbs. I'm not expecting anyone to cut us some slack, but with a game well in hand (note your comment we got our asses handed to us in the second half), historically, quality coaches have graciously ended it. Style points were beneath them. It was a respect thing. It has changed with the likes of Billy Tubbs and other ego-driven bullies who feel better about themselves by pushing for total domination. They've willingly participated in taunting and encouraged fans to do the same. Their concept of sportsmanship has a kind of wife-beater mentality to it.
Your post to which I initially responded related to our getting better. I agree. That is singularly our responsibility. I feel very comfortable Coach Gundy is effectively addressing that point. What I disagree with is the concept sportsmanship has to be a thing of the past. Sorry, Jake, I don't accept that as being whiny.
Lastly, (and I don't mean this as a slam in anyway but it might explain our difference in this point of view) how old are you? If you don't remember Leonard Hamilton, that will put my thinking regarding your thoughts in a different perspective.

Paul Hansen was coach when I was in school. I don't need any different perspective. Gundy shoved it down someone's throat when they called a time out and it was evident they were still playing. They had it coming. uo did the same. If you think it won't happen each and every time you call a time out in that situation, then you need to think again. It is whiny assed to expect your opponent to show you any quarter when you are calling time out to extend the game. Accept it or not, I don't particularly give a deuce. It's whiny assed.
Oh, and welcome to the board.

Jakeman is correct, this DID happen. It seems to me it that it was much closer to last year than the first year, and I think it was a home non-conference patsy, but I recall it the same way as jakeman. Good guys up by a TON, time running out, and the other coach calls time out. Gundy rams it down their throat, as he should.
