This is my first opportunity to see the basketball team this year. I think I understand our new offense. We try to get a fast break. If that doesn't work out, we stand around on the perimeter and when somebody shoots, nobody crashes the boards.

It's not that bad, Wyo.

Zags may be a bit over-rated but they are ranked 10th.

Son, they're playin' some D and crashing boards and droppin' 3's.

So far so good.

I really like Travis Ford's approach, thus far. Seem's he did his homework on the Zagnuts.

Game is way early though.

If we could make a few free throws this would be a different game.

There's the worst play of the game right there. Why foul someone with 9.6 seconds left when you are down by 10? And then, after you do it (foul), you don't even run a play to get a shot you just have Byron throw up some crap?

Other than that, not a bad game especially with all of the foul trouble.

Rough night for Eaton. Otherwise, I thought we played pretty good. I think the refs started working toward the end of the first half and into the second half. Still, better than I expected overall. Do we now have to play the #6 team in the nation?

I wrote that at the beginning of the game. We had at least two consecutive possessions where we ran the ball down the court, immediately jacked a 3 which missed, three or four white shirts were under the basket to collect the rebound and not a single orange jersey in sight.

It got a little better after that.

Run and gun three pointers can be fun to watch, but it has never won many national championships.

If I wanted to watch playground ball I could watch it for free. I never liked a basketball game where the rebounder at one end got to shoot it at the other.

That said I will give Ford a chance, and I will give him multiple years to prove to me that defense is now secondary to winning consistantly in the game of basketball.

I have nothing against Ford. He may turn out to be a fine coach, but I suspect this year he will struggle to match Sean's record from last year. The offense may be more fun to watch, especially when they are hitting some shots, but without better defense, we will be lucky to win many games in conference this year. Still, Ford deserves several years to prove himself, so I am not going to worry much about this year.

Totally agree. All these folks confidently announcing that we're going to the tournament this year are nuts. We need to give this guy time to install his brand of basketball before we set ridiculous expectations.

Well don't look now but the Zags ended up winning the Old Spice tourney by beating a pretty good Tennessee team 83-74. Tennessee was ranked 12th in the nation.

Makes our loss a little more bearable.

Yep, we had the Zags down by three late in the game before we went cold. I'm taking some solace in that. :cowbell:
