OSU Notebook: Fedora visits

Former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Larry Fedora, who two weeks ago became the new head coach at Southern Miss, attended the Cowboys' practice on Saturday at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Ariz.

Before returning to his new home in Hattiesburg, Miss., Fedora will attend Monday's Insight Bowl against Indiana.

"I'm here this weekend, supporting the team," Fedora said. "I've got a lot invested with these guys and I want to see them do well."

Asked whether he had reviewed the Cowboys' offensive game plan, Fedora replied, "I've looked over it, obviously, because I'm interested to see what they're going to do. It looks like to me that they've got a great plan put together. This is their deal. I'm just here to offer support."

Said OSU coach Mike Gundy: "(Fedora) is just here to be around the fellows. When you leave a team and a staff, it's difficult. You've spent a lot of time around them. It's like graduating from high school. We enjoy having him around. He's part of the reason that we're here. His life is going to change dramatically in about three days. I told him to enjoy himself while he's here."

It is believed that Fedora intends to interview OSU linebackers coach Todd Bradford for Southern Miss' defensive coordinator position, but Fedora said he hasn't done so yet.

Final practice: The Cowboys will not practice on Sunday, so Saturday's session was their final workout of the season.

"We've had a good week of practice," Gundy said. "The camaraderie and fellowship -- it was enjoyable to watch them spend time together this week. They know this is the last time this group will be together, and they enjoy being around each other, so it was a lot of fun."

Gundy said this week's routine has been identical to last year's Independence Bowl preparation. The Cowboys defeated Alabama in the Independence Bowl.
