The slums of Rio are called Favelas. They occupy what once were beautiful mountainsides. They are much worse than they look and are full of violence and drugs.

Spending a month in Rio this summer was one of the highlights of my life. To see what these people go through is amazing. I have a million stories from my time there from the touching (at an orphanage, two 3 year olds wouldn't leave my side) to the biazarre (some guy squirted some nasty stuff on my shoe and tried to clean it off-he about got kicked in the face). The people from Rio (nicknamed "cariocas") are genuine, exceedingly friendly and very nice.

I saw all the places in the pictures, and then some. I proposed to my now wife at the foot of Christ the Redeemer. It was an experience I will never forget.
