I agree, especially since it's sandwiched between away games.
My husband, who doesn't read message boards or know anything our ticket price controversy, saw the empty seats and was absolutely HORRIFIED. He said "For gawds sake, we're number 9 in the BCS and our stadium is HALF EMPTY?"
It's pretty bad, alright.

Yeah I would like to see more people there, but YOU DONT KNOW, and THIS IS COMING FROM PEOPLE THAT ARE ON A MESSAGE BOARD DURING THE GAME, have the nerve to call people out!! Well OSU Drug Rep... seeing how I am a Coach who lives in deep EAST Texas and who works on Saturday morning breaking down film of last nights game...
That would make it really impossible to make a game in Stillwater,Oklahoma from deep East Texas when the game starts at 2:30 and I get out of breaking down film at 1:30...
Now shut your mouth and don't speak up about situations you don't know about... simple as that... unless you know what you are talking about...don't speak

I haven't been one to bitch about ticket prices, we buy them because we can & love it.
But $85 for OSU v ISU really discourages walk up ticket purchases.
I think it may be a sign that ticket prices may need to be reevaluated.
Since individual game tickets aren't being sold for bedlam, expect a lower attendance than today.......

A friend of mine sold three tickets for 50.00 today. There are cheap tickets to be found if you look for them. I gave three tickets away today so their would be warm bodies in my seats.

oh I agree, sometimes you can find a deal.
But folks who live a couple hours or more away won't drive that far & hope to get lucky.

We usually have 6 or 7 there to fill our 8 seats. Yesterday, we had 7. My little brother, a farmer who always can find something that needs doing instead of going to the game, commented about how empty the student section was. The south side and the west end zone were pretty full.

You sure about that? Miami always had trouble selling out their games when they were good. Ohio State did not sell out their game the week after the loss to USC.
Yes the turn out was pretty bad, but let's not fool our selves that every top program does not have this problem.
I know there are many who will staunchly defend them, but the students should be ashamed of themselves. At any rate, it's become painfully obvious that we just don't have a big fan base and will never sell the stadium out consistently (regardless of how many games we win). Absolutely pathetic showing by the fans of a Big 12 team in the Top 10 of the BCS rankings. Oh well...

You don't generally see top programs ranked in the top 10 consistently fail to sell 20% of their tickets, especially with a stadium the size of ours.

I know why some can't make the effort, cost. I know several OSU and Stillwater police officers and tickets came up and most public servants, teachers, city worker and police can not afford the prices. I don't put this all on Holder, although prices are high, but when you combine prices and how pathetically low they are paid can partly explain why more Stillwater residents don't go.

I recall Pat Jones (in the last century) saying we had a "core group" of fans that was 30k+ back in the mid/late 80's when we cheated and had fun. It's 20 years later and it's risen by approx. 10k. The level of this year's success was prolly unexpected by most; so why expect a sudden bump/rush of fans, especially for dog biscuit games like ISU. OSU is competing for entertainment dollars just like everyone else, and face it, the product on the field (prior to this year) hasn't exactly been a great bang for the buck. We finish strong, it will show up in next year's ticket sales/attendance.

They switched to the ga tech game and then to another one, and then to the wrapup show. I usually really don't have an issue with them switching away from the last minutes of a blowout, but couldn't they do a picture in a picture kind of thing. I missed Cate coming in, Woods catch, I State's touchdown... who knows what else?
The end of the Ga Tech / FSU game was a good one, but honestly Austin, TX is Big 12 country. I could have seen the highlights of that and a bunch of other ACC games on Sportscenter if that was what I was looking for.

Sweet...
you mean all I have to do is plop down $150 dollars and I'll be able to get two bedlam tickets for another $85 each? That would be just over $300 dollars for two rather than the $800 I'm planning on spending for two more season tickets.
Funny thing is when I bought these tickets, I was going to pay for Posse to be able to select seats, but the ticket guy told me I'd get the same seats either way so I didn't really need to plop down the $150 right now.
I use to be a Posse member, but I decided I would become a season ticket holder rather than just donate to Posse, because I thought it would help the team out more... now you're telling me I didn't need to buy season tickets, I only needed to be a Posse member to get Bedlam tickets?

Now I realize... Iowa State is not as flashy of a game... but...we need to fill the stadium... 8-1 and we have tons of empty seats...makes no sense...
And yes, big time programs do sell out..OU, Texas, Texas Tech, heck when was the last time you saw A&M not 95% or more full? BIG TIME PROGRAMS do sell out home games... big time programs do have that kind of support...
Hate to burst your bubble.. and anyone knows I am as big a OSU fan as you will ever find... but it is still disappointing to see the empty seats...

I agree to an extent, but I've never been of the opinion that a team's hometown population dictates the team's attendance.
I mean, to put things into context, just look at a school like, say, Miami. What's the population of Miami? A million or so? And yes, I know the student body is small and that there aren't hundreds of thousands of UM alumni running around, but still - there's money in Florida, historically good football, and a large segment of bandwagon fans. That said, UM rarely came close to filling the Orange Bowl even when the 'Canes were winning national championships.
So, I don't know... I mean, it's disappointing that we didn't have more there on Saturday, but given the opponent, I can't say I'm that angry about it. Likewise, minus the west endzone, that would have been a near sellout any other year, so maybe things really aren't so bad.

You're reading too much into it.
Here's how you go to Bedlam:
1) Buy an OSU season ticket. Use that ticket to get in.
2) Buy an OSU student ticket. Use that ticket to get in.
3) Buy one of OU's allotted tickets from OU ticket office. Use that ticket to get in.
4) Buy someone else's ticket, obtained by one of the above means.
That's it. Why is it so hard to comprehend? :catfight:

I'm not sure where you're getting 20,000.... we've sold around 40,000 season tickets, and OU gets 5,000, that's 45,000 already (only 15,000 left)
I have never heard that Holder's "goal" was to sell out Bedlam, quite the contrary, his stated goal was to increase season ticket sales, which he accomplished in a grand fashion.
I will be very upset with Holder if he changes his position now. I would eagerly have been a Posse memeber if it had been published that it wiould be required to get extra tickets.

Yes, my 20,000 was a bit off. I knew we sold about 40,000 season tickets and I failed to consider visitor ticket allotments. Thanks for the heads up on my number of possible empty seats.
I don't care what Holder decides to do with those tickets. He just needs to figure out how to put 15,000 more Cowboy fans in BPS for Bedlam.
If Holder feels that he can't change his mind and sell the Bedlam tickets for a lower price then he should give them away in a controlled way to high school students. It would be a great promotion for some students that have never seen the OSU campus.
Just figure out how to put some more orange butts in those seats.

I don't see how giving them out to high school students that have never seen campus is putting "more orange butts" in the stadium. It would be almost impossible for anything Holder does to sell those tickets and not have a good portion of them end up in the hands of the enemy.

Qualify the tickets someway. Code them where only a certain age group can enter with them.
Stamp "Not to be resold under penalties of death" on them . :)
Issue the tickets just before game time and make them enter together in small groups.
I'm not sure what can be done. Someone needs to start thinking though.
How many students in the Stillwater school system are Sooner fans? That would be a good group to look at for young Cowboy fans.

Nix the HS student idea... there's no way to ensure that they would be wearing Orange... lots and lots of "red" HS students in OK.
