I predicted here just about 10 days ago that Tech would beat UT. I have changed my mind.
It impacts us, so a lot more interesting thread than anything else going on around here :)
I originally thought TX had no chance in this game, being at Sandville and all.
But the more I think about it, the more I think it will be a UT 7-10 point win.
TX coaches and players KNOW this is their super-bowl warm-up. Get past this one, and they are in the final game. They will be juiced to the max, prepared, focused to the max......and with more talent and more balance.
Tech's passing game is unreal, but they aren't balanced at all and will get schooled. Tech will score 20-28 points, which is pretty good against the TX D.
But I think UT will have less than 3 punts (maybe none).........to Tech's 4-5 punts. And Tech's special teams will leave UT with better field position and field goal ability that Tech simply doesn't have.
The Tortilla crowd will be disappointed for sure, and UT will be unscathed all the way to the MNC game.
Which I think is good for us, as we aren't going to be in the MNC (or Big XII) game under any "reasonable" circumstance....so why not root for TX to pigtail us into a BCS Bowl :)
Win out baby and Fiesta here we come. And last year's BCS media darlings (KU....with their Nat'l Coach of the Year and all his Chen's) did not play TX, Tech or OU. Our BCS dream season will have occured against the best of the best without a fluke in scheduling. And then we win it all in 09 :)

I don't think that TTech will win, but the certainly can win.
I will be cheering for TTech.
I think the TTech defense is a little better than you're givin g it credit.
Only Nebraska has scored 31 on them, and that was in OT, and only two teams have scored more than 25 on them.... (KSU had 28).
OSU has given up 28, three time (of course one was a loss to UT).

Nebraska didn't score in OT so no reason to qualify those 31 points.

Well then, Keeping someone from scoring in OT says more about your defense than giving up 31.

The nebraska QB threw an INT on one of the first plays. It was more of a bad play by the QB than spectacular play by the defense. He threw it right to a tech player. Almost losing at home to nebraska seems to say a lot more negative about tech than an example of how good they are.

I guess... the Bugeaters are 5-3, and are pretty capable... TTech held them as well as anybody except Missouri...

hmmmm Hopefully I'm wrong but I think UT is worn down. I look for ttu to drill 'em. Then we return the favor next week in Leachville. That way the B12 South is completely messed up and we wind up getting screwed come BCS and bowl selection time. Not that I want that to happen, but that just seems to be the way it rolls for OSU.

Texas defense will put much-o pressure on Graham Harrell, I look for UT to win by a couple of TD's.

That is the conventional thought, but they haven't the past few years... TTech seems to be able to dump it off quickly enough to stay out of pass rush pressure.

I still think that UT will be hard pressed to put up more than 45 on the Techsters...
and the Texas run-defense isn't going to help them much this weekend...

Texas run O and Tech run O will decide this game, I agree. If Tech can run the ball as effectively as we did, then Tech will win.
I just don't think they can. We ran it effectively partly because our run O is very, very, very good and partly because Will M. never went away from the prevent D the entire game. We kept begging him to bite and load the box and he never took the bait to allow us to go over the top to Dez.
I think Will M. will mix it up better this week and stop Tech's running game, which isn't near the caliber ours is.....and once Tech becomes one-dimensional, they aren't so good.
I could be wrong......and for sure......the whorns haven't played a tough road game yet, and Sandville will be truly rocking and rolling, so anything can happen.

hmmmm.... I was saying that TTech NEVER runs the ball, which is why the great Texas run defense will not have any impact. The Texas pass defense is deplorabe and that's all that TTech does...

I believe Tech has run for more than 100 yards in every game this year.

Yessir, FP. They are 64th in the nation at 138yds/game (up from last place in 2007).

the stats say that TTech is the #1 passing offense in the country and in the Big12... they won't care if they can run it or not... and at #64, I doubt that they'll try for long, especially of Texas get ahead.

Yep......against the 91st ranked Strength of Schedule versus TX at 18.
Tech's schedule has been nothing but pre-season patsies, including their Big XII schedule (KSU, Nebr, aTm and KU). Of course E. Washington, Nevada (dead last at 119 in pass D), SMU and UMass (not far ahead of Nevada) really helped. KU is the only team that preseason thoughts were decent, but we now know that KU has the slowest D in the Big XII, bar none. KSU and aTm are horrible. Nebraska aint all to good, but they took the Gaiders to OT.
Now, I agree with you that Texas' pass D isn't anything to write home about, which should make for an entertaining game. Should be fun to watch, and if Leach pulls this one off, I believe Tech will be in the driver's seat for the Conf.........and even possibly the MNC game........because if they are real enough to beat TX, then they are certainly real enough to beat both OU and OSU and run the table.

Texas D line will torch techs O line tech usually has their lineman spaced out and with the longhorns speed on the line they should have no problem getting to harrell

That TTech OLine is enormous... absolutely enormous.
and it won't matter much if Texas gets to Harrell... he won't have the ball when they get there.

Your "over-powering sense of the obvious" equals/exceeds mine at the moment; I have a very bad visual, and it's not a pretty picture.
I think we win next week and here's why...
1. We run the ball far better than Texas and this controls the clock so Tech can't.
2. We defend the pass better than Texas this year and our defense is good at getting turnovers.
3. We have more experience on the road in big games than Texas did going in.
4. Tech just shot their wad, and is spent.:pacman:

I like our chances in Lubbick next week... they remind me a whole bunch of a bad Missouri team (not saying Missouri is bad, I'm saying TTech looks like a bad missouri team to me).
I figured that Texas would have trouble with the TTech defense, but honestly, they had opportunity but didn't get it done... it will be that close where an INT for a TD could cost the game.
Conversely, I think that our balance will give us a better shot at the Techsters... they're decent defensively, but they do give up points and yards; the fewest that they've allowed was 21 to Kansas and everybody else has scored more than that.
I think our defense will have some success against TTech with their wide-split OLine, just like we did against MU. Tech will have seen tape on it by now, but it could still work effectively with our speed on the DLine and their slow-footed giant sloth OLinemen.
We'll need to keep their receivers in front of us and get dinked and nibbled continuously down the field, but we can't allow huge gainers.
I think we have some advantage on special teams, but obviously not if we tackle like this week against ISU.
Just like the UT/TTech game yesterday, and just like our win in BPS over TT last year, it will probably come down to the last play of the game for somebody.
Last year TTech had the shot in the Endzone and lost, this week against UT they had the shot and won.
I believe last time we were in Lubbick we were throwing for the endzone for a win when time expired.
Personally, I would prefer the lead and take our chances holding them off, rather than trying to make a last chance effort at a win.... like we tried against Texas last week.
