IRVING, Texas — Nine Oklahoma State football players were named to the 2007 All-Big 12 football team, the league office announced Tuesday.

OSU’s first-team selections include running back Dantrell Savage and tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Second-team choices are receiver Adarius Bowman, offensive lineman David Koenig and defensive end Nathan Peterson.

OSU’s honorable mention picks feature kick returner Perrish Cox, defensive back Jacob Lacey, offensive lineman Russell Okung and linebacker Donovan Woods.

The All-Big 12 team is voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches. The coaches cannot vote for their own players.

Savage, who ran for more than 100 yards against every Big 12 opponent this season, is the first Cowboy running back named to the all-Big 12 first team since Tatum Bell in 2003 and just the second OSU back named first-team since the formation of the Big 12 Conference. Savage is also a member of the Big 12 all-academic team.

Pettigrew ended the season with 32 catches covering 501 yards with four touchdowns. He is just the second Cowboy tight end named first-team all-conference during the Big 12 era. Alonzo Mayes was a two-time first-teamer (1996 and 1997).

Bowman, a first-team pick last season, was selected to the second team despite missing nearly three full Big 12 games due to injury. He ended the regular season with 61 catches for 932 yards with seven touchdowns. His career average of 17.6 yards per reception is second among all active NCAA players.

Koenig is the lone Cowboy senior in the offensive line. He has started 36 straight games and anchored an offensive front that allowed a league-low five sacks in eight Big 12 games.

Peterson led the Big 12 with six quarterback sacks in conference play. He will enter the bowl game fourth all-time at OSU with 20.5 sacks in his career.

Two things:

First we are going to miss Savage more than Bowman next year, although both are big losses.

Second, 5 sacks in 8 games-future looks bright, HOWEVER, I think it has a lot to do with the elusiveness of Robinson rather than a terrific (but still really good) O-Line. Sort of like Tony Romo.

You know, I never THOUGHT of the Robinson/Romo comparison, but I think that's VERY valid.
