Doug Gottlieb was a great leader running the Cowboy offense; I believe he has the highest number assists in OSU history! However, Doug went through a terrible drought at the free throw line. He could not hit the broad side of a barn! So bad, the crowd started the "Doug Chant" when he was fouled!
I'm trying to remember which game it was when it started, “Doug, Doug, Doug…”
I'm pretty sure it was during his senior season, which would have been 1999-2000. I'm sure it was during conference play. I know we were up by a bunch because the crowd was in a jovial mood. Even Doug got a kick out of it!
And the roar from the crowd when he made his first free throw was incredible!
I'm thinking it was when we beat Kansas, 86-53.
We also beat Nebraska 94-55 and Colorado 96-60 that year.
Is the Kansas game correct?
