Cowgirls win by 71 points

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke had no intentions of being a Christmas scrooge to his basketball team, but his 20th-ranked Cowgirls had been unfocused in their previous two games.

"I would say it was implied," freshman guard Kristin Hernandez said. "It was understood there were consequences if we didn't stay focused."

The Cowgirls showed they were indeed focused on Saturday against Central Arkansas. OSU scored 30 of the first 31 points and went on to rout the Sugar Bears, 107-36.

It was OSU's largest margin of victory ever and the Cowgirls' first 100-point effort since a 103-48 win against Prairie View A&M on Dec. 29, 2005.

The Cowgirls (10-1) lost their first game last Tuesday 97-63 at TCU and struggled early the next night at North Texas before winning, 77-55.

Budke was pleased his team played with a purpose on Saturday.

"Overall it was a good performance," Budke said. "You can tend to get sloppy at times in a game like this. But I thought we were pretty efficient."

OSU hosts Oral Roberts on Friday night at 7 p.m.

I wonder what the men's team goes by.
