I have heard that since we didn't give him a scholarship for the spring he is considering looking at other schools.

I'm no insider but it's my understanding that the situation still has not played out. There is always a chance, after all, that an early registration spot could open up for Spano at OSU before he has to pull the trigger on thoughts of going elsewhere, in spite of the current state (someone else could leave, or something). I have not seen or heard any solid word that he has actually signed anywhere else and I think he did publically say he was still committed to OSU "for now"...

I read what the DOrK wrote about the situation yesterday, and it certainly didn't sound encouraging...but with the grain of salt taken with reading the DOrK, I don't know how much is negative spin and how much is reality.
HOWEVER, I will weigh in with my 2 cents worth....If the kid and his HS coach Dad are playing the games as described in the DOrK, I would just as soon he go on and go elsewhere. Playing hardball and demanding that a scholly be freed up to suit his plans to come in early or he's going to go elsewhere...that says the kid is more about "ME" than "TEAM". We NEED the other dude to get in early because he's a potential true freshman impact player for the defensive secondary. On the other hand, Spano will redshirt, no doubt about it. I truly believe that if I was given an ultimatum in this situation...I'd have to say, "Sorry it didn't work out, but go on and do whatever you think you're big enough to do."

In the Houston Chronicle this morning (Sunday) he is still listed as a committ to OSU. I hope things work out for him to stay with us.:)

Sadly, by his actions, he as already burn a bridge with me, and will need to do twice as much as anybody else to prove that he wants to be part of our TEAM. (emphasis on TEAM)

I can definitely relate to all of the frustrations regarding Spano, but lets remember a few things. The kid is what...17...18 years old? He was our FIRST commitment is this class. He committed last year right after last signing day. For a year now, he's been taking steps to make sure he is on track to graduate. I'm sure that has required some sacrifices on his part along the way. To say that this has thrown a wrinkle in his plans is a bit of an understatement.
Now, having said that. I think Gundy has made the best out of a crappy situation. I've heard people bashing him because his "word" means nothing now, we'll lose our pipeline with Texas high school coaches, etc... At the end of the day, numbers didn't work out like Gundy thought they would. We signed a slew of JUCO talent and some guys didn't graduate like they should have. It's not like he promised a scholly that he never intended on giving, the numbers just didn't make sense. Spano still has a spot, he just can't some until June.
Gundy signing Martin (4 star DB) instead of Spano could be viewed as crappy. But, it could be viewed as smart too. Martin had already committed to A&M and uo, only to decomitt to both and sign with us. If we really wanted the kid, it was probably pretty smart to get his sig as soon as possible.
I really feel for Spano and I do hope he sticks with us. He got caught in the number crunch and got a little lesson in the nature of the business. He still has a spot in June and I hope he takes it. I hope he hits the weights and enjoys of spring of D1 QB status with the ladies:D

Couldn't agree more with raydawg81. As others have noted, there's a good possibility that one or two sports will open up before the spring semester starts. Whether or not Spano will wait to see or even still want one remains to be seen. I hope he does.

I don't disagree with either one of you - raydawg & rolentz - except to say that I don't go for the game-playing. I absolutely don't believe that Gundy is playing games. We had some unexpected things happen in recruiting that could not have been accounted for a year ago, resulting in a MINOR change of plan required on the part of Spano. For him and/or his dad to start making ultimatums and demands like it sounds just turns me off and makes him automatically suspect of not being a team player. Like I said before, when someone puts an ultimatum in front of me, they best be prepared to be disappointed. Especially when the kid hasn't lost anything except 'Plan A' and 'Plan B' still isn't a bad deal.
Spano still has a scholly, just not able to begin in the spring under scholarship. He can still walk on for the spring, or he can enjoy his spring semester at his HS, getting much needed weight work underway. But the fact is, we NEED the 4-star DB in the worst way, and he COULD have an impact from the time he steps on the practice field while Spano is a dead-lock-cinch to redshirt immediately...
If he sticks by the reported ultimatum, all I got to say is that I hope he stays in the Big XII South so that we have an annual opportunity to put highlight-reel big hits on him and make him otherwise understanding of the concept that when one plays hardball, the ball gets thrown back, too. ;)

Maybe a scholarship does open up. If one doesn't he should just take the spring off and enjoy it. Like one of you said he will redshirt this year anyway.

Adams played on Saturday. Maybe the whole situation was not as bad as many thought.

I looked on rivals and scout about Spano today. Rivals shows him as a soft verbal and has an article that saws he is shopping for colleges. Scout shows he has no interest in OSU and has no offer now.

How the hell would you know.
Please, do not bash our prospective recruits; it is unnecessary and counter productive.
