Time for a timeout

Just because Oklahoma State’s offense has been rolling over opponents with ease doesn’t mean there’s peace in the OSU offensive coaches’ meetings.

Head coach Mike Gundy, who calls the plays, said discussion gets so lively that “timeouts” are frequently necessary, thanks in large part to a lot of guys with strong opinions.

“Somebody will go and get cut-ups from five years ago and show how they had success, and he’ll go get his cut-ups and everybody’s showing cut-ups, and by the end of the day we usually throw them both out and just go back to handing the ball off to Spud (running back Kendall Hunter),” Gundy joked.

READYING RICHETTI

OSU defensive line coach Glenn Spencer occasionally used freshman Richetti Jones in third-down pass rush situations Saturday against Troy, an area where Jones can contribute as he continues to adapt to the college game.

“He’s starting to get more accustomed to running our scheme,” Spencer said. “He can run well. We’ve just got to get him to learn his assignments and play at a high intensity level all the time. He took a step Saturday. If he keeps playing like that, we’ll get him in more.”

MY, WHAT BRIGHT SHOES YOU HAVE

Oklahoma State kicker Dan Bailey sported his bright orange shoes for the first time in a game last weekend. He wore the shoes frequently during the off-season and said it was just a matter of time before they made their official debut.

“It was just kind of a bet to see how long I would take to go back to them,” Bailey said. “I was kind of wanting to wear them a little bit, so it was this week or next week.”

Bailey had multiple people tell him they mistook the yellow-ish orange shoes for penalty flags during the game. Bailey was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points and made both field goals he attempted against Troy in the shoes.

I enjoyed seeing Richetti in there on several snaps. I think he had an offsides penalty, but he'll get better. Did anyone see him chase down the running back and make the tackle? Nice. How is is recovery from the hip injury going? Will he ever be 100% or is that the type of injury you never totally recover from?
