OU's Stoops dismisses dirty play claims
Oklahoma players and coaches had left the stadium by the time Cincinnati receiver Mardy Gilyard's complaints about the injury to Bearcats quarterback Dustin Grutza began to circulate.
So Sunday was the first opportunity for OU coach Bob Stoops to address Gilyard's remarks suggesting the Sooners were "grabbing and doing a little twisting that they shouldn't have been doing around his face, rolling over on his ankle here and there. Just stuff that wasn't good ball in my opinion, just wasn't good ball.”
Grutza suffered a broken right fibula on the play.
"Oh, geez, heck no,” Stoops said when asked if he had any problem with the play. "Bottom line, we had a blitz on and two guys are trying to grab him and go down. You see that all through the year from everybody.
"Our guys do what any guy does just trying to get a guy sacked. Unfortunately, two guys had him and as they're taking him to the ground, his foot was caught, I guess.”
