why didn't Gundy put in a backup QB for the last drive of the game?

I know our offense struggled through the first half and at times did not seem to click, but with 5 minutes left for the last drive the game was in hand. It seems to me that it was the perfect time to let either one of our backups some real game time, considering neither one has had any real game time snaps.

If someone has an answer please share?

Someone asked me the same question about the Washington State game. I had no answer then or now. But I would expect if OSU gets out to a 40 pt halftime lead against Missouri State, you will see the backups especially at quarterback.

I dont like it that we dont give the # qb any experience we wait until our starter gets knocked around before we put in our #2 qb I know what some are already thinking but we do need to have the Back up ready to go and if zach struggles against Texas A&M I would at least put Cates in there in the event that Zach plays bad or gets hurt.
the right thing to do is let him play in the 4th quarter so he can get the Experience needed .
Ok i am done being a arm chair athelic director back to being a arm chair nfl gm.

Mike apparenttly does not feel the need to do so. He has picked this up from Stoops.

Come on folks..lets think about this.....

Houston has the big play ability and was scoring on us at will deep into the 3rd and 4th quarter.... I would have been afraid to put in Cate or Weeden as well ...

One pick from an inexperienced QB , then Houston gets a quick touchdown... (the reason they didn't score more is because we controlled the ball at times with our offense).... and they get on a roll... then the game might turn out differently...

When we are up 35 plus.. then throw those back ups in... but against a team like Houston who can score in 2 minute drives... you want to ensure the victory ... I understand this one...

Now next week if the backups don't get playing time... then i will be confused

I think it was because of the interception issues early in the game. Robinson needs all the snaps he can get in these tune up games. Somewhat dangerous certainly, but if he needs the plays then so be it.

Gundy said two things regarding leaving Zac in the game

1) They were considering a change, then Houston scored with 4:00 to play and they didn't want to take any chances, and

2) They wanted Zac to get more experience with the "ball control" aspects of the offense; to run the clock down.

He is scared to put in the best QB in the Big 12 because after all the flack he caught from replacing Bobby Reid with Zac, he can't handle replacing Zac with Cate.

Fear, pure and simple.
