View Full Version : A question for those who were there:
Did the stadium seem loud? Was it noticeably louder than before it was bowled in?

It seemed pretty loud, but we were in the suites, so its hard to tell. The students should be proud. I have not seen their section so full in a long time. The stadium looked like it had well over 50,000, but I guess looks are deceiving.

I was estimating 48,000 to 50,000. I couldn't believe it was only 45,001. And it seemed pretty loud. I'd like to know if the players felt it was louder because they are the ones who matter the most.

words can't describe.....because it wasn't just the sound.....it was the sight of orange in a bowl. My thought was just how intimidating it has to be for visiting teams and fans. In past years, when we weren't full, it was obvious. Not tonight. In spite of a few holes in the seats, it looked and felt like an NFL playoff game or a bowl game. Very cool

it's much louder
I too was suprised the attendance # was so low, looked like it was darn near full.
And yes, kudos to the students! Great job!

The main empty seats that I noticed were Club Seats on the North side of the stadium. They were probably 50% occupied, at best.

I heard the game on Yahoo and the stadium did seem louder. It was especially loud when Houston was on offense and in the western part of the field. The cheer squad and crowd did a good job of producing noise to make it more difficult for Houston's offense.

It was definatley louder and to look down toward the west end and see it so full sure put a smile on my face. I was really impressed with the turnout yesterday, now I hope it stays that way for the rest of the season!

The new West End Zone intimidated Bullet after the first TD. Horse and Rider balked at returning up the tunnel. By the end of the game, Bullet had plenty of practice in the new surroundings and adjusted well.

I was wondering about that. That poor horse has had some major adustments to make in every year of his service so far. Hopefully things will be stabilizing for him and he can rest a little more in his role. It's definitely good to hear that he was settling down toward the end of the game.

There were a few plays where the noise level came up but the tension level in the stadium was never high enough to get the full impact of the new stadium.
Hard to imagine there were only 45K, the West End Zone looked fairly full, if we added 10K with those seats then I would have thought we were closer to 49-50K.

If the 60,000 includeds the added suites in the ends zone, then 45,000 for attendance is probably around the right number for what was there?

No, according to the program the 60,000 is the 2008 capacity and the 2009 capacity is TBD. So, I would assume that is doesn't include the end zone suites. I was guessing around 50000, the only visible sign of empty seats was the top of Houston's section. It is always hard to tell how many club and suite seats are empty.
Overall I was very impressed with the turnout and the fans.
