Here's an interesting blurb from the Newspress
Take a look at Savage's YPC average, then look at Hunters!
Looks like Dantrell only needs 8 yards to break 2,000 for his OSU career.
Tailback U.
Senior running back Dantrell Savage will play his final game on New Year’s Eve, when OSU meets Indiana in the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Ariz.
The transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College missed four games the past two years and played at Georgia in this season’s opener with an injured groin.
Still, he amassed 1,992 yards and 16 touchdowns on 326 carries, an average of 6.1 yards per tote.
The yardage total is 15th in school history and his yards per carry trails only Barry Sanders’ 6.8 among OSU backs with 1,500 yards.
“Dantrell has NFL ability and NFL passion,” said running backs coach Curtis Luper. “He loves to play the game. He loves to run. You put those together and you get a dominating back. I wish he hadn’t missed those first (two) games (plus been injured against Georgia) because he could have had 1,500 yards (this year).”
Still, the Cowboys appear to have their next great back ready to plug in when Savage leaves, as freshman Kendall Hunter has shown the same kind of shiftiness.
Hunter, a freshman, has 663 yards and four touchdowns on 99 carries, an average of 6.7 yards per tote.
Luper said Hunter, who is listed at 5-foot-8, 180 pounds, isn’t as small as some think.
“He is just a little shorter, but he weighs more than Dantrell (who is listed at 5-9, 195),” Luper said. “Savage is about 190, and Kendall will play around 192 most of the time. He has the potential to be better numbers-wise because he’ll be here longer.”
