Im trying to download something using utorrent.
it is painfully slow.
so I checked out the speed guide, and my speed test was fine.
so, then I checked the port to see if it was forwarded properly......
What eve port I use I get the following error:
Error! Port does not appear to be open.
what the crap do I do?

I wish I knew how to help you Ben, because I've been struggling with torrent downloads as well...I think what might be happening is that your service provider is closing down the ports...I saw where that became an issue in a few instances (I remember reading about someone actually suing their internet provider over the fact that they weren't allowing them to download)...
do you use a router? If you do there is a way to open the port. If you do not use a router, your ISP shut down that port.

go to www.portforward.com and set up your router to allow whatever port you are using. I am using a 2wire DSL modem/router unit and I usually change my port once a week.

Ive done the port forward thing.
Everytime I tried to set a port I get some error that says
WAN port error
