blah... I hate singular team names. :vomit-smiley-001:
But, as far as those go it's not too bad.

Jazz and Heat are the only other non-plural team names I can think of off the top of my head.
NCAA has Stanford Cardinal, St. John Red storm, and Syracuse Orange.
any others?

I just wonder what the heck a mascot for "Thunder" might look like... isn't that a sound?
I suppose they could borrow a few of the idiotic mascots that the goons have laying around to represent a "sooner".
They should have at least been able to pick a name where there can be a good mascot or a decent logo...

Orlando Magic.
How is thunder singular? Thunders? Thundii? I figured it was one of those words like moose.

Well, if they want to get plural, they should just make the team name Thunder Cats.
Already has a great slogan and lots of mascots to choose from!

I guess singular may be the wrong word. I should have said non-plural. :)
You know, like the Magic, Jazz, and Heat are more abstract than say the Bulls, Warriors, or Hornets. I like the latter names better due to the more concrete and plural nature of the names and their usage.

Thunder, wind and lightening. Sounds like an off-colored joke one of my uncles used to tell. Somehow the name just does not ring quite right for a basketball team. Perhaps in time....? Now, Cowboys and Gooners, those are good names! Go Pokes!!!

That is the only problem I have with the name. When you have a name like that, you end up with mascots like this:

Oh that is rad! Just think...at the intro of every game we can turn out the lights, get some lightning effects and play Thunderstruck by AC/DC! How awesome will that be?! :music-smiley-005:

The fans can wear hats that look like a big, dark cloud; i.e., thunder head.

I wonder if thunder is suppose to be a verb instead of a noun "to strike, drive, inflict, give forth, etc., with loud noise or violent action." That would fit better for a basketball team than "a loud, explosive, resounding noise produced by the explosive expansion of air heated by a lightning discharge."
