Sorry if this has already been posted. I wonder if this will effect travel?

Release: 06/09/2008
OSU and Washington State are set for an FSN game.
STILLWATER -
For the second consecutive year, the Oklahoma State football team will open a season on national television with plans now finalized for the 2008 debut.
The Cowboy’s Aug. 30 game at Washington State will be televised by Fox Sports Net with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m. Pacific (2:30 p.m. Central). The game will be played at Seattle’s Qwest Field instead of on the Washington State campus in Pullman. The Cougars will play in Stillwater in 2010.
OSU opened the 2007 season on ESPN2 at Georgia.
The Washington State game is the only non-conference road game of the season for the Cowboys as OSU returns home to host Houston, Missouri State and Troy before opening Big 12 play at Boone Pickens Stadium against Texas A&M on Oct. 4.
The Washington State game will mark the eighth time in nine games that Oklahoma State has been televised to a national cable or regional network audience. The Cowboys appeared on FSN five times in 2007.
Oklahoma State and Washington State will be meeting for just the third time and for the first time since 1952. The Cougars will represent OSU’s first Pac-10 opposition since the Cowboys registered a 31-20 win at UCLA to open the 2004 season."

Eh, I dunno... Given the distance and money a trip to Washington would cost for most Oklahoma State fans, I have a feeling that it's one of those trips that people were always going to do do or not. In other words, I doubt the fact that the game is on TV would sway those on the fence too much.

Between that (TV) and the increased cost to travel, it's got me waivering...
I was "guarenteed" going to be there, but airfare and/or gasoline increases have me wondering if I shouldn't just save my money for a trip back to BPS.

But I'm guessing that when it comes down to brass tacks, the cost of travel is more prohibitive than the fact that you can watch it on television, right?
I mean, in my case, if I could afford the trip, you can bet I'd be there - regardless of if it being on TV.
We were planning to go, but have pretty much decided not to. Airfare is too expensive.

I'm sure there will be one up there, but we don't have one planned. Vetmed and 76 probably won't be there until Saturday then leave first thing Sunday if they even get to come at all.
I imagine there will be an OSU Alumni Association event, but I'll try and find that out for sure tomorrow.

Hahaha, can't a guy have an expansive vocabulary and a strong grasp of the English language these days without being bombarded by questions?
Anyway. Not really sure where I picked it up, but I've been told I insert aphorisms into everyday conversation "like an old man", to quote a friend.
Million dollar question of the day: Do you know where the term "brass tacks" comes from?

Hahaha - I got a pretty good laugh out of that one.
It's true. My generation, for lack of a better term, "sucks".

If you continue to do searches you can still get decent air tickets. We are planning to combine the game with a brief vacation and also see Vancouver.

That's cool...I have been talking smack up here about ya'lls tailgates...haha.
Honestly - most of the cougar fans I've run into are completely convinced that they will steamroll "okie state". In fact, they actually have a perplexed look on their faces when I make any comment about it being a decent game. One guy even made a comment about Boone's donations finally made the rest of the world realize there are TWO schools in Oklahoma.

That was my exact question - which ran into "wrestling, golf? who cares about those sports?" lol

what have they done in football (when was the last time they went to bowl, bball (were they in the tourny?),baseball? I never remember hearing of them doing anything. We are similiar schools, both ag, both in rural areas of the state, where WU is similiar to ou, in large metroplex area

I kept going back and forth trying to decide whether or not to go, because it is expensive, finally decided they needed me there yelling so I really couldn't turn that down. Got to answer the call. We're taking the Triple Play Sports deal.

actually no, not really. The fact that it is on TV (meaning I'll get to see it anyway), is the biggest factor in deciding on the trip or not.
It costs me a lot to go to a game, and this trip would be "less" than heading to Stillwater.
If it wasn't on TV, then I'd probably be trying to decide on the least expensive way to travel, rather than on whether or not to travel at all.
I may still end up going, but it would likely include just a buddy and I "roughing" it on a marathon drive, rather than a leisurely trip with the family. (maybe strong-arming LewisthePike to join us)...

Being that, as a football coach, we work late on fridays with the games and work on saturdays .. i won't be able to go but would love to be at this one because I heard Seattle was a beautiful city with lots to do.
I also have some friends living up there so it would have worked out great.... however one thing that bothers me is people still call it a neutral site game.... which I don't consider it a neutral site.... us having to fly all the way to seattle does give WSU the advantage....
I still would consider it a HOME game for WSU as I feel that the WSU fans with be in full force.

With regard to "fans", then you're probably correct, although it would be a haul for the studends to make it there from Pullman...
For the team/players, they also have to travel, and stay in a hotel, and won't be in their locker rooms... so yeah, it is "neutral" from a team traveling perspective.

Here's the comparison between OSU and WSU:
2007
OSU 7-6 with a victory over Indiana in the Insight Bowl
WSU 5-7
2006
OSU 7-6 with a victory over Alabama in the Independence Bowl
WSU 6-6 no bowl
2005
OSU 4-7
WSU 4-7
2004
OSU 7-5 with a loss to Ohio State in the Alamo Bowl
WSU 5-6
2003
OSU 9-4 with a loss to Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl
WSU 10-3 with a victory over Texas in the Holiday Bowl
2002
OSU 8-5 with a victory over Southern Miss in the Houston Bowl
WSU 10-3 with a loss to ou in the Rose Bowl
So OSU's totals are 42-33 with five bowls in the last six seasons while WSU's totals are 40-32 with two bowls. Not too much of a difference. OSU just needs to beat them and that will shut them up.

That's deal-breaker right there. It might be a more enjoyable trip with say...your mother-in-law.
