The Big 12 South has really stepped up the salary chase.
Stoops $3.5
Brown $2.9
Sherman $1.85
Briles $1.8
Leach $1.75
Based on this Leach and Gundy are under paid. Briles and Sherman overpaid. I am still surprised by the Sherman hiring, I see them changing again in about 3 years. Briles better hope another offer comes along, there is no where for BU to go in this division.

That was Miles who did that.... Gundy was paid more than Miles; and that was before his last raise.

That might be true if Holder wasn't involved... He's making much more already, and hasn't really won anything; not even a decent bowl, or a game over the goons, or texas or A&M... heck, he lost to Baylor for the first time ever for gosh sakes. Simmons wasn't even that bad.
I think we're on the verge of a break through season (or should that be, "break even with Miles" season), but Holder is in charge of raises and tenure... sure, winning will make it easier for the AD to "justify" raises, but he's been getting them for virtually nothing, so far.

I cant help to think that if osu had more fans and were wining 10 games every other year then the junior hair spray warden would get a big pay raise. I hope gundy doesnt coach conservatively this year because we lost two games last year because we went into a shell and those games were Georgia and Texas A&M .
if we win 5 games then holder should can gundy .
if we win 6 games then gundy should take a pay cut.
if we were to win 8 games or more then i say give ole Mike a big pay raise..
if we could figure a way to beat Missouri , texas and texas tech this would make my year.

I'm with you acefin, except for the last point, since winning only 8 games would likely be "the same", and not a real improvement, based on an easier schedule.
Make it MORE THAN 8 games, and I'm with you 100%.
If we could find a way to win the games that we should win and just win one game against Misery, Tejas or Tech, then I would be happy.

Interesting logic, CC believes we are on the verge of a break through season, yet is ready to throw Mike under the bus.
The point of the thread was that the price of admittance has changed. Arguing that we don't like it is like threatening that you will only pay $1.75 for a gallon of gas. Things change and they change quickly, our ability to adapt allows us to be competitive. Baylor which will remain at the bottom of the South is paying $1.85M.
Following the 2006 season Rich Rodriquez was offered the Alabama job. He turned that down and signed an extension. Rodriquez had his wish list including assistant salaries that he wanted the University to fulfill. Rodriquez lost several coaches following the 2006 season. When WVU lost the Pitt game and consequently the opportunity to play in the title game Rodriquez not doubt felt a lot of pressure. With the Michigan job being offered, he viewed that he was no longer bound by the extension he signed because in his view the University had not addressed his wish list. Rodriquez left for greener pastures and perhaps he left his New York Yankee job since he was an alumnus of WVU.
We as a fan base need to understand that things can change rapidly and we need to do the things to allow us to be competitive. We need to learn from the WVU situation and extend our appreciation to Mike even if we don't always think things are exactly how we would want them to be.

If OSU wins 6 games or less this year, Gundy should be fired.
7 wins he get a reprimand.
8 wins he gets a pat on the back.
9 wins he gets an "atta boy!" and some free hair gel.
10 wins he gets to rant.
11 wins he gets a raise.
12 wins he gets a raise and a gatorade shower.
13 wins he gets a raise and two gatorade showers.
14 wins he gets a raise, three gatorade showers, a ride on the shoulders of the players and a national championship trophy.

No doubt about Georgia.....we got it handed to us in the 2nd half.
Our special teams cost us at least 2 wins last season. Our new kicker will be the most important freshman coming in this class. He will be a great addition. Incredibly strong leg. His dad says he's made many 65 yarders in practice. Can really boom it. #1 kicker in the nation in high school last season.

Exactly what I was thinking. That wasn't being conservative, that was being offered up to the football gods by UGA. They were better than us, plain and simple.

I may have gotten the Goergia game mixed up with another game but didt Toston coof up the ball 3 times in the Georgia game ?
I thought the Georgia game is where we had the special teams melt down.
didnt we have a runningback named Offafor who ran 15 yards downfield but he stoped for some reason.?
it seems to me and maybe it is just me but i though we ran the ball well on Georgia but we couldnt throw the ball down the field and their defense had stopped our wr's on the line of scrimmage and then Toston and his fumbles kind of hurt us a little bit.

A&M was a special teams meltdown. The bad blocked punt and then the missed field goal. I was there and the A&M fans were asking me why we tried to block the punt when we would have had the ball in TD range or at least a field goal. For me it was worse than the Texas game.

Mike started with a very low initial pay. It was a 5-year contract in which he received a base salary of 225k (05), 250k (06), 275k (07), 300k (08 & 09).
Additionally, he is paid compensation for services (namesake, tv, radio, camps, promotions, etc) that increase yearly: 475k (05), 550k (06), 575k (07), 600k (08), 700k (09).
In Feb 06, He got his 1st contract extention, until 2010 (one year) but it did not give him anymore money at that time.
In 2007, his 'Talent and Personal Service Contract' was amended to allow him more money for services: 675k (07), 750k (08), 825k (09), 900k (10), 975k (11), 1.05 Mil (12). This constitutes the 'raise' that he received, as you can see the numbers for 07-09 went up (100k, 150k, 125k).
In late Nov 2007 he was given another extension to take him to 2013 where his personal services will be 1.125 Mil (13). If you look at the money past 2009, all you have to do is add the compensation money to base salary and that will be how much of a raise he gets the next year, because he is programmed in on a 100k raise each year past that time.
For instance, we know 2008 he gets 1050k (yes I know its 1.05 Mil but easier to explain this way). This is 300k + 750k.
325k + 825k = 1150k (09) - 100k increase from 2008. 350k + 900k = 1250k - 100k increase from 2009. And so on. 375k + 975k = 1350k (11). 400k + 1050k = 1450k (12). 425k + 1125k = 1550k (13).
Or easier to read:
08 - 1.05 Mil
09 - 1.15 Mil
10 - 1.25 Mil
11 - 1.35 Mil
12 - 1.45 Mil
13 - 1.55 Mil
Generally speaking, the base salary comes from wholey university funds and compensation can come from a variety of funds, to include corporate sponsorships, speaking fees, etc. Some of it has been known to be written off (as in PSA appearances for seat belts).
To my knowledge, he has never gotten a 'raise' only extensions. Nothing has ever been said to make his normal yearly increase more. As he has gotten extensions, he has gotten roughly the same or even a little less than his normal pay increases would have been if the time had been extended on the original contract. Let's be honest, he hasn't really deserved a raise above and beyond what he normally gets, but I do think he has earned the right to the ability to have more years.
And yes, Mike has directed that any FURTHER increases in his BASE salary should go to his assistant staff. OSU is known to have, top to bottom, some of the highest paid assistants in all of college football and one of a small handfull who offer assistants multi-year contracts. To give credit where credit is due, Less did start this practice.
From a Summer 2007 E$PN article:
Oklahoma State gave offensive coordinator Larry Fedora a $135,000 raise after the 2006 season -- boosting his annual salary from $258,000 to $393,000 -- and extended his contract from three to five years. Each of the Cowboys' nine assistant coaches has at least a three-year contract, including four who have five-year deals.
"We probably have more money tied up in assistant coaches' salaries than anybody in the country," Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. "What that means is we believe in them. We're going to give them an opportunity to earn a good living, to work hard and we want to keep them in Stillwater until they can move on and be coordinators and head coaches."
OSU's assistants will be paid 319k, 303k, 253k, 4 at 228k, 188k and 153k.
As far as him being at the bottom of the B12, all of the brand new hires in the B12 were given huge contracts. Some were hired away from big jobs so more money was needed (Hawkins), some were schools that made bad choices on the LAST big hire (Neb, atm), and some were suck schools that had to throw big money at a candidate (Baylor, ISU).
OSU knew they could low ball Mike - he was unproven & wanted the job; OSU held all the chips. KSU also knew they cuold low ball Prince for the very same reasons. That is why they are among the lowest paid. It has nothing to do with the quality of program or coach. Mike is still paid low so he can have the highest paid staff, thus making it a more desirable job to get and stay at.

Georgia was easily the best team we played last year. I said that immediately following the game in Athens.
We had some opportunities to stay close in the first half, but UGA was by far and away so much more talented, deeper and faster than we were.
We were lucky Coach Richt held off in the second half. He's a class guy and he showed it.
UGA will challenge for the NC this year. And if they don't make it this year, they'll be the odds on favorite coming in to christen our stadium in 2009.
Big 12 favorites, Texas, OU and Mizzou would have a hard time playing in the SEC. Of course, so would Ohio State, Michigan and USC...and anybody else.
When it comes to money, Gundy is getting what he's worth right now. Art Briles getting that kind of money out of Baylor is Baylor trying to keep a coach for more than two years.
Sherman's money at aTm is so much lower than the proven Brown and Stoops are getting, but as soon as Sherman proves he's equal or better than Fran, the money will come in from fat and happy Aggies.
OSU has the money to pay a headcoach. If Gundy doesn't get 7 regular season wins (and a bowl win -- making 8 total), he may be looking for another job. Another 7 wins and a trip to Shreveport shouldn't be considered an improvement. Not now. There's too much money and momentum invested to plateau.
Gundy has to improve his road record -- Big 12 and all. It's abismal. Also, last half losses to the likes of aTm and UT are not setting well with most OSU fans.
OSU fans want another coach (like Les Miles, but not like Les Miles) who can beat OU. We've tasted some wins over Stoops and OU with lesser talent, so it MUST BE the coaching. Most OSU fans love Mike Gundy as the quarterback, but as the coach, the jury is deliberating.
One more year with last minute meltdowns, losses to lesser teams like Troy, and blow outs to hated OU will convict Gundy by a jury of his Cowboy peers.
I don't think Gundy is even worried about money anyway. He's about winning. He's all about OSU.
But IT'S all about results.

Eddie was way underpaid for what he was doing at OSU. He put us on the map so quickly our compensation could not keep up with the success. Not saying that that is the reason for Gundy (I think most of it is personal) but sometimes the highest paid are not always the best.

A healthy Savage to start last season would have made a big difference. Would have still lost to UGA but it would have been closer. Doubtful we would have lost to Troy with a healthy Savage. Hopefully the running backs are ready to go early because I don't want some team to jump up and bite us in the arse early and through the season off track early.
