George Kaiser Family Foundation makes $25 million gift to higher education in Tulsa area, including $9 million to OSU

The George Kaiser Family Foundation has contributed $25 million to enhance higher education programs in the Tulsa area, including a $9 million donation to boost endowed faculty chairs at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa, OSU Center for Health Sciences and OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee.

With this gift, the Kaiser Foundation aims to improve several priority needs in the community, including health and social services, education, engineering and technology and vocational training. The public institutions will use the funds to expand academic programs by adding key faculty and increasing student enrollment.

“Oklahoma State University is extremely grateful to George Kaiser and the George Kaiser Family Foundation for this wonderful gift and for his vision and on-going commitment to higher education,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “This generous gift will make a lasting difference in the Tulsa area and because it will be matched by T. Boone Pickens’ historic $100 million donation, as well as the state, the gift will have an ultimate impact of $36 million for OSU programs on our campuses at OSU-Tulsa, Center for Health Sciences and Okmulgee.”

Wichita family foundation adds $500,000 to entrepreneur-focused chair at OSU

Oklahoma State University announced today a $500,000 gift from the Fran Jabara Family Foundation to augment an existing professorship focused on entrepreneurship. Once fully matched dollar-for-dollar by T. Boone Pickens’ $100 million chair match commitment, as well as the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the gift will provide $2 million of impact in endowed funds.

The Wichita-based family foundation is led by Fran and Geri Jabara and their three children, Leesa, Lori and Harvey. Fran earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from OSU in 1948 and is a certified public accountant. Fran taught at Wichita State University for 40 years and served as Dean of the College of Business where his name has become synonymous with excellence in education and entrepreneurship. A retired business professor, Jabara continues to be actively involved in entrepreneurial development by assisting other universities in establishing academic programs and by speaking worldwide on entrepreneurship.

“As a leading expert on entrepreneurship, we are honored that Fran Jabara and his family are making a lasting impact on Oklahoma State University’s new world-class entrepreneurship program,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “We congratulate Fran on his many accomplishments and contributions to the business world and greatly appreciate all he has done for his alma mater.”
