It doesn't sound like OSU is narrowing the gap talent-wise defensively. RA picked Jacob Lacey 1st team corner and Matt Fodge 2nd team punter and that was it. Not that I disagree but when your team can't put more players on the Big12 1st or 2nd teams -- your team has a steep hill to climb to get to the top.

Well, RA's preseason All Big12 Offensive 1st and 2nd teams aren't much better, at least in regards to OSU.

Russell Okung - 2nd team OL
Brandon Pettigrew - 1st team TE
Dez Bryant - 2nd team WR
Kendall Hunter - 1st team RB (his admitted homer pick)

I think we play in the most talented league in the nation. I know I'm biased but even outsiders recognize the talent in the Big 12 this year. I think it's pretty good we got who we got.

As a team though, I like where we're at. We'll have a bunch on there next year, I can feel it

In my opinion the S.E.C is the toughest division in college football. That said, the Big twelve is very close though. I think we will see a much improved D and our O will be as potent if not more potent than last year. And the greatest thing is we can watch the Gooners die a painfull death in our new facilities that dwarf thiers! :ousucksnana:

Also, I believe that by seasons end you 'll see more individual honors than you see now. And after all that's what matters.

Well, that's what I am hoping. Right now it doesn't look like OSU football is getting much respect. I hope it puts a fire under the team and they play to prove all these so-called experts wrong.

I'd like to see a few more defensive players mentioned as All Big12. That would indicate our defense came around.

I don't really understand this discussion.

We don't really have anybody that has proven anything (defensively). We have a bunch of guys that we hype a whole lot that haven't really seen the field, but I'm not sure just who you folks think should be there.

Jacob Lacey is the only one that I can think of, or Sexton, but Lacey is at a position where there are a bunch of really good conference performers, and Sexton is changing positions to LB, so how do you judge his performance against the conf. LBs returing at that position.

I like Burton, Chinasa, Richetti, Miller, The Punisher, Lavine, et al, but none of them have done anything yet asided from Lavine.

I can't find a lot of fault with the preseason rankings because we have so many new guys and young guys, but I will be watching the post season honors closely.

Even the post season honors will be based on team won-loss record to some degree. With twelve teams and about 24 positions, getting 2 on an All Big XII team would be average. Some teams will get none. Teams with the best records will probably get more but it is such an inexact art that some teams will get guys named because they are who they are.

True, but it is a bigger leap to put somebody on a preseason list based on what they might do, rather than a post season list based on what they actually did do.

Until our defense does it on the field, OSU is going to be picked anywhere from 3 to 5 in the southern division in the preseason.

Ding,Ding,Ding. I believe we have a winner folks.
I think we will do better this year, but I understand why we are picked for 5th place based off of our past performances.

Ding +1. Nothing matters except results on the field; we can talk about recruiting, potential, blah, etc., but talk won't plug the sieve.

back to the topic... I think that Pettigrew has earned it already (preseason vote)

Any prediction by someone that by all accounts is in the OSU doghouse is suspect. We just need to play out the season and hope the coaching staff have done their job. Here's to a great season...Go Pokes!!!!

I saw that RA reported that the remaining freshmen reported this past week (including LB Booker), but that Alfred Dupree was not there and is not expected to qualify.

YO , gang, is this the same Robert Allen that said wr Tommy D. was a future all star ? I sometimes think Robert Allen wouldnt know talent if they came up to him and slugged him with a subway sandwich.

most of you are right; osu needs to have a outstanging year especially the defense . what this team really needs ,is to sytay out of jail and go out and beat three really good teams and not lose games in lieu of poor play or poor decission.
I dont know if anyone will agree but here are three things that we need to see happen.

1. much better special teams play.

2. more downfield throws to Pettigrew ,Broadway, or Dez

3. better play from the defensive line.

4. fewer fumbles by the TBs.

Does anyone know how Toston is doing? Is he back to full strength and looking like he was before he was injured?

Just a few thoughts:

If OSU does not establish another receiving tight end in fall practice then I think they need Atrell Woods, Josh Cooper, Damian Davis or Hubert Anyiam to step it up and be a reliable go to receiver.

If Toston is not fully recovered, I'm ready to see Kye Staley as our third running back.

I do think special teams play (coverage and returns) needs to improve. Who do you think will be doing the punt and kickoff returns? Will Perrish Cox be doing the punt returns? Would we see William Cole doing returns?

I don't know this Bo Bowling. Who is he and what position does he play?

Bo Bowling is a transfer from NEO who impressed some people during spring practices. He does seem to have a knack for playmaking.
