STILLWATER — Southern Mississippi has scheduled a press conference on Wednesday to announce Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Larry Fedora as its head coach, according to sources.

Fedora, 45, replaces Jeff Bower, who was forced to resign two weeks ago. Fedora has been viewed as the leading candidate since he first interviewed with USM athletic director Richard Giannini on Dec. 4. Fedora flew to Hattiesburg for a second interview last Friday.

Wow, did you go to every OSU board and post what we already have known. Actually one of our insiders broke it 3 days ago.;)

Just joshin'. I think you'll find in time that Fedora will be a good hire. The key word in that phrase is time. His offense takes a while to develop right along with the players in it. I swear the first year we only ran 3 plays;) This assuming he will call his own plays, but who knows.

Looks like he won't take any assistants, notably Coach Wickline, our o-line coach. Dynamo recruiter and awesome coach. Hopefully the reports are true and Wick stays.

It will interesting to see how Fedora takes on the HC ranks and hiring his staff. But hey, at least Southern Miss is CUSA and Fedora will see a step down in competition from week to week:D, sorry had to get that dig in, you just stole our OC!!!

One thing is for sure, I'm glad he's leaving his playbook in Stilly. Now I just hope someone can decipher the damn thing:D

I just hope that Larry is not making a mistake by taking this job. He is going to have to compete on the recruiting trail with Ole Miss, Miss. State, Alabama, Troy, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee and to a degree with Florida.

So. Miss is right smack dab in the middle of some prime recruiting areas for those teams. It will be interesting to see the type of athletes he will bring into the fold down there and where they end up in the years to come. Not knocking So. Miss or anything but the level of players he gets will not be the same, in that the top studs want to play in the SEC not the CUSA.

One good part is that the coast is a short drive away and the wife and kids can go play and lay on the beach during the summer. Hope he enjoys looking at Pine trees. Tons and tons of Pine trees everywhere he looks. Hattiesburg does have a little more to offer than Stillwater (bigger city). More chain restaurants, more hotels, etc.

I wish him luck. But I also hope he doesn't take any of our other coordinators with him.

I'm really curious who he's going to try to take with him from our current staff. I hope Gundy nails down a few to keep them here. That's all we need is to have to reload a staff and back track our progress we have made on offense.

Good Luck Larry.

USM is a pretty decent first job. I don't think he will have a problem recruiting, especially for Conference USA talent. Rice, Houston and SMU are also in good recruiting territory, but very difficult to win at those places for a variety of reasons.

According to the Hattiesburg American the press conference is scheduled for 1:00 PM today.

Sorry to see Larry leave but hope he does well at Southern Miss.

One other thing to keep in mind as far as the recruiting at Southern Miss versus the SEC is that Southern Miss can take partial qualifiers and I am pretty sure the SEC doesn't allow any. If I remember correctly Southern Miss can take as many as they want so any good athlete that is lacking on grades...

Actually, we conduct ourselves to the same standard other BCS conferences do; several SEC schools have more partials than we do (and we have very few, if any right now). That's just a line they like to toss out as to why they won't play us.
